ARGH!!!! MY EYES!!!!!!

Sorry about the color scheme, but Halloween is awesome...I'll change it back to something normal on Thursday. Those donuts in the picture were created by yours truly. Our son wanted me to go to Dunkin' Donuts to buy him some donuts.....if anyone ever sees me in a Dunkin' Donut.....shoot me please.

We have another local chain around here that I would buy donuts from because they contribute quite a bit of money back into the community and I used to work for them.....but Dunkin' Donuts? They've slipped quite a bit in the past couple of years.

Today's science break. I'm a science geek, I love reading stuff like that....check out this guys other essays at the bottom of the page.

This is kinda cool.

This looks like a good book. I know I'm gonna sound like an old fart when I say this.....but things were so much different when I was a kid.

Oh wait...........I'm still a kid. At least on the inside.

Have an orange day.

You know you're tired........

You know you're tired when you get into the shower and you're still wearing your glasses. Sometimes, I even surprise myself with my own absentmindedness....I am the king of forgetting stuff.

I bought myself a simple Palm Pilot a year ago, I don't know how I'd get through life without it. If I am supposed to be somewhere or pick something up from the store...I gotta write it down in the Palm or 9 times out of 10-I'll blank out.

Ever walk into a room and forgot what you wanted to do or why you were even there? Sometimes, I'll have whole days like that.

I'm on vacation again next week, I am hoping to hit the foliage peak right on the money.

One thing about working shift work is that nights off can really screw up your sleep schedule. For instance, this is my night off and I took a short nap right when I got home from work Sunday morning and then another one Sunday evening and now it's 1:30 AM Monday morning and I'm wide awake.

This would be cool if I could actually do something besides watch TV and screw around on the internet. I'd like to cut the grass and fertilize but 2 in the morning isn't the best time to fire up the mower........

Quiz.....

1. Name the one sport in which neither the spectators nor the participants know the score or the leader until the contest ends.

2. What famous North American landmark is constantly moving backward?

3. Of all vegetables, only two can live to produce on their own for several growing seasons. All other vegetables must be replanted every year. What are the only two perennial vegetables?

4. What fruit has its seeds on the outside?

5. In many liquor stores, you can buy pear brandy, with a real pear inside the bottle. The pear is whole and ripe, and the bottle is genuine; it hasn't been cut in any way. How did the pear get inside the bottle?

6. Only three words in standard English begin with the letters ' dw' and they are all common words. Name two of them.

7. There are 14 punctuation marks in English grammar. Can you name at least half of them?

8. Name the only vegetable or fruit that is never sold frozen, canned, processed, cooked, or in any other form except fresh.

9. Name 6 or more things that you can wear on your feet beginning with the letter 'S.'

I've been reading about the wildfires out in Cali...between the fires, the traffic, earthquakes and housing prices-why does anyone choose to live there? I guess the climate is pleasant.

I don't know but when you have 2,700 factories making stuff for you on the other side of the world...some stuff is gonna slide by.

I ain't the smartest guy in the world, but it sure would be nice if we could figure out a way to make sure all kids under the age of 18 had healthcare....and yeah, I'd pay more taxes to make it happen.

Here's a really spiffy weather map. Just put your zip code into the box on the upper right.

1. Boxing.

2. Niagara Falls (The rim is worn down about two and a half feet each year because of the millions of gallons of water that rush over it every minute.)

3. Asparagus and rhubarb.

4. Strawberry

5. It grew inside the bottle. (The bottles are placed over pear buds when they are small, and are wired in place on the tree. The bottle is left in place for the entire growing season. When the pears are ripe, they are snipped off at the stems.)

"Stop Dressing Your Six Year Old Like a Skank."

"Stop Dressing Your Six Year Old Like a Skank."

Next time I see a 12 year old with "Juicy" printed on her ass..........

I'm not much of a web page designer...

I was working on our churches web site and took a second look at the pages I had started to set up....I kinda didn't like them, so I deleted the lot of them and decided to start over.

Sometimes, life is just like that.

I only have one client appointment so far this week, so I should have plenty of time to do some more experimentation. It's mostly simple stuff with large, easy to read graphics.

Lots of the potential users don't spend a lot of time using a computer-so the easier the site is to navigate-the better.

Ouch....

So last night was kinda cold and drizzly..........my knees were absolutely killing me. So much so that I bought a tube of Icy Hot to slather on them. I went to the restroom, dropped trou and put a generous amount on both knees.

Not sure how it happened but some of the Icy Hot must have gotten on to my trousers.

After a few minutes, I noticed some things getting warm that really weren't supposed to be warm. Since my daughter and my mom read this blog........I'll leave those body parts up to your imagination.

Moral of the story.......be careful with where you put Icy Hot....it works good-sometimes a little too good.

I saw a commercial for Charmin toilet paper yesterday.....the commercial was touting the fact that Charmin leaves fewer pieces behind. Unless I get into a car accident and have to go to the hospital...........exactly how many people will know if I left a few pieces behind? What a dumbass commercial.

Our daughter is going to Italy sometime next year........not sure of all the details but I think it's way cool.

An easy fix.......

I went to a clients house to fix their printer.........pretty easy fix as it wasn't plugged the whole way into the computer. I wish all the fixes were that easy. I didn't charge them anything....I didn't have the heart and it wouldn't have been right. Sometimes tech stuff can be easy...sometimes it can be hard.

In the next couple weeks, I'm gonna be spending a lot of my free time setting up a simple to use web site for our church.....so if ya'll don't see me post much-you know why.

This morning coming out from work was the first time this year that it felt like fall. Windy, rainy and cold....good sleeping weather, but not much good for anything else. Lucky for me...that's what I plan to do...catch up on some sleep. If there's one thing I do well, it's sleep. I might even be considered a professional sleeper.....I'm that good at it.

I love me some 80's music.

Why it's good to wear a full face helmet (don't worry-no gore). A friend of mine at work had a get-off earlier this year...his head hit the guard rail. Without the helmet....he woulda probably been killed.

Work sucks............

Okay, maybe that's a bit harsh, work doesn't really suck....but my knees ain't used to standing up for 8 hours straight....I was a hurtin' pup when I got off this morning.

I was gonna try to post some good news from current events........but I could find any. Hell, even the guy who invented Rice-A-Roni died.

I'm a nice guy....honest.

Dumbledore is gay. I say........how bout it? I'm sure the news will piss off lots of conservatives, but lets face it-the world is made up of all kinds of people and the sooner we all get along......the better.

Speaking of trying to get along.....the neighbor directly behind us let their dog on their back patio all day this past Saturday. The only problem with that is that it barked for 4 hours straight. After it got dark, I walked over and calmly asked them how much longer they were planning on letting the dog out there barking. I got a "huh" look.

How can people be so damn dumb and inconsiderate? Next time, I'll just call the police and let them handle it. Not sure if bothering the police for such a trivial manner is okay or not-but they might be able to get through the guy's thick skull better them me.

More about getting along.....the neighbor next to me, is pissed because I mowed a strip of his property 8 inches wide by 20 feet. He asked me not to cut it because I cut it too short. 8 inches dude.......get a freakin' life. His wife has recently left him so he probably a little unstable, I'll try to be nice to him, but it's gonna be an effort.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot the neighbor on the other side of me.....they recently moved this past summer and while they've been busy with remodeling their house-they have let their yard go. I asked them to trim and weed an extremely overgrown flowerbed bordering our property a while back because it was seeding our yard with all kinds of weird weeds and plants.

Nothing happened for awhile....so I weeded it myself .......with a bottle of Roundup. No roots, no weeds, no problem. Except they give me dirty looks whenever they see me.

And don't get me started on dog owners that think it's okay for their dogs to defecate and urinate all over my yard and then try to clean most of it up with a shovel and a baggie........

Sounds like I'm a real asshole huh? Not at all...I'm a nice guy-honest. Just ask my mom.

A hiking we will go......

I got to take some good pics yesterday-my wife and I went on a hike around Lake Williams. As you can see, it was close to 4 miles-nothing too tough but we both are feeling it a little bit. Actually, my knees are feeling it a LOT...but it was worth it.

You know you are getting old when you take Celebrex before you go out for a walk.

As you can see...there ain't a whole lot of Lake Williams left. It's really surprising that there hasn't been much coverage in the local media concerning how low our water reservoir is.

We walked past where all the clear cutting in the park took place several years ago, at the time-the Parks and the York Water company promised that they would reseed the logged areas with new trees.

I didn't see any new trees, just a lot of garbage vegetation. I guess the money the York Water Company got for the logged trees was more important then restoring what they destroyed. I know we need paper products, but jeez.....did they have to saw down trees in one of our county parks? I digress.....

Here are more pictures here of different locations along the trail.

I had my camera on full auto for all the pictures, I didn't want to hold up my lovely wife while I goofed around with settings...she likes to keep a nice steady pace. We did the hike in about 90 minutes so we didn't do much standing around.

Even with having the camera make all the decisions....I think it does a really nice job.

My friend Hank sent me this. My favorite is the pic with the bigger brother that decorates his baby brother with magic marker. I'm sure he got in a little trouble for that one.

I still think Rush Limbaugh is ten pounds of shit packed into a 5 pound bag, but hats off to him for doing this.

I'm geeked out.....

How you know you might be a geek when you...........

Use two computers with different OS'es at the same time.

I'm liking Ubuntu quite a bit, there isn't much that it can't do that Windows doesn't do. It even runs fairly well on my 8 year old PC. I'm no Linux expert, but I like having something different to learn, and fortunately.....I have a few readers that can help me out if I get stuck on something.

The weather here in Central PA has just been insane. I'm sitting here at 6 in the morning wearing shorts and a t-shirt. Saturday and Sunday are supposed to be in the mid 70's....not bad for late October. I'd be perfectly okay with a mild winter. I like the cooler temps but I can do without the snow, sleet and freezing rain.

With any luck, I'll be out later today to play around with my camera, I've pretty much mastered the basic settings and besides....it ain't rocket science-it's just getting out there and getting some shots.

I've found the candidate I'm voting for in 2008..........I'm going with the toad........I'm tired of all the bullshit.

I made a little money......

Wasn't feeling all that spiffy yesterday but I did a simple web site for my brother-in-law....nothing really fancy-actually, it's exactly how he wants it....simple and easy to navigate.

He's been talking to someone that does web sites for the last 6 months and been getting pretty much nowhere. I'm not a web designer by any stretch of the imagination, but I threw something together while he was here yesterday working on my windows.

He's happy-I'm happy and I get to put a little more money in the bank.

A joke......

A cabbie picks up a nun. She gets into the cab, and notices that the VERY handsome cab driver won't stop staring at her.

She asks him why he is staring.

He replies..."I have a question to ask you, but I don't want to offend you,"

She answers, "My son, you cannot offend me. When you're as old as I am and have been a nun as long as I have, you get a chance to see and hear just About everything. I'm sure that there's nothing you could say or ask that I would find offensive.

"Well, I've always had a fantasy to have a nun kiss me."

She responds, "Well, let's see what we can do about that:

#1, you have to be single and #2, you must be Catholic."
The cab driver is very excited and says, "Yes, I'm single and Catholic!

"OK" the nun says. "Pull into the next alley.

"
The nun fulfills his fantasy with a kiss that would make a hooker blush. But when they get back on the road, the cab driver starts crying.

"My dear child," said the nun, "Why are you crying?"
"Forgive me, but I've sinned. I lied and I must confess, I'm married and I'm Jewish."

The nun says, "That's OK. My name is Kevin and I'm going to a Halloween Party."

........gotta love Halloween.

I sold my Redline Monocog yesterday.....it's going to a reader of this blog and I'm sure he's gonna be using it a lot more then I've been. I hate to see it go, but being realistic-ain't no way I'm gonna be riding it with my creaky knees. At least it went to another computer geek-you gotta like that.

Still have my Cannondale R500 if anyone's interested.....

I'm a slacker....

Jeez, I forgot how much fun it is to just wake up in the morning with no set plans until I go back to bed in the evening. I guess that's why they call it vacation.

My brother-in-law is a contractor and this week he's installing all new windows and patio doors in our humble abode. I'd post his name, but he already has way more business then he can handle. The dude is a total perfectionist and deals mainly with high end clients-he's real good.

I caught me a little bit of a cold or something, I got a flu shot the other day-that might have something to do with it. It's not where I'd call myself "sick".... just enough of a cold to where I just wanna flop around the house and take it easy. Since it's going to be rainy for the next couple days-I'm not too upset about it.

I'm a wallpaper junkie, these are some very nice high resolution pics.

I also like trying out new software.....anyone remember Netscape Navigator? They have a new version that's mostly a copy of Firefox. It's pretty much the same but I kept it anyways, it's a good back up in case I corrupt Firefox somehow.

How fresh is your Sushi?

It's just nice to wake up and other then taking our son to school.......the rest of the day is open.

Yay.

I've decided to sell my Cannondale R500 road bike, I've ridden it exactly 5 times this entire year. I'm much more comfortable on my Cross-Check and I'm gonna use the money for computer stuff. I need PC equipment more then I need a bike that I never ride. You can check out more here if you're local and wanna buy a nearly new road bike.

Settings settings and more settings

Well, so far I've gotten about half-way through the manual on my camera and there are all kinds of settings for just about everything. It's kind of intimidating but to be honest....I'm kind of digging it. I'm sure once I learn what all the buttons, menus and settings do...it's gonna be awesome.

Just finished setting up a new PC for a client yesterday. They went from a Windows 98 machine with a 14 inch CRT display and dial up to a pimped out Vista desktop with a 20 inch LCD widescreen monitor with broadband. Super nice guy and he very well might have stayed up all night playing around with it....I know that if I was in the same situation, I woulda.

48

Mmmm, funny-except for extremely creaky knees......I don't feel like I'm 48.

I know I sure don't act like I'm 48.

Which is at least half the fun.

What did I get for my birthday? Lots of love from my family. My wife puts up with electronic stuff all over the place so I can pursue my dream of running my own business, so I don't think I could ask for more......I guess I could ask for more, but I don't think I'd get it:-)

Last night at work they had a crew of guys come in and strip all the old wax off the floor and re-wax everything. Not sure what's in that floor stripper but none of those guys on the floor crew can have very many functioning brain cells remaining.

It gave me one helluva a headache.

I'm just glad I only have to smell it twice a year when they re-do the floors....those guys smell it every night. I'm thinking they probably have a hard time stringing meaningful words together to form sentences.

Working on a brand setting up a brand new computer this weekend and trying to restore an old one that's infested with spyware. I really hate to use the nuclear option when I try to save someone computer but this particular computer is just being used for browsing and doesn't have any documents or programs installed so it's getting formatted and a fresh XP install.

I'm gonna make it so fireworks go off if the client tries to open or download anything other then web pages:-)

Not much time to blog this week, busy as heck with computer stuff.

PhD's don't work at gas stations...

So I pull into the local mini mart to get gas on the way home this morning.....get the nozzle into the van and the guy inside say something like "Hidhgf kfheodsbb, gheosbcpqwu...BEFUSRID over the outside PA system. Then about 10 seconds later, he says the same thing but at the end he adds...those assholes don't listen. I assume that he thought he was off-mike when he said the last part.....

Since it's 4 AM and I'm the only customer on the property---I figure he's talking to me. I walk inside and tell him I'm the asshole that wasn't listening, but it was hard to understand what he was saying because it sounded like he was talking through a wet blanket.

Turns out he normally sounds like he is talking through a wet blanket and probably has a room temperature IQ at best because he doesn't apologize for calling me an asshole, he just tells me that I need to reset the pump.

I didn't try it, but I managed to tip over a 24 oz coffee all over his counter when I was checking out either so I guess we're even. Oh, if anyone from Rutter's follows the link back to my blog-the guy's name is Emory and he works at the Haines Acres store-he needs to learn some manners.

Where the heck is Fall?

Holy cow, it's October 5th and we have the AC cranking. I checked the weather forecast for the weekend and we are supposed to get close to 90 degrees. Holy crap. My only misgivings with the warmer weather is that we're gonna miss out on the crisp cool weather and go right into winter. That would kinda tick me off....fall is my favorite season.

Yay, I got my laptop back and they got it all fixed up without having to format the hard drive. I had all my stuff backed up but it's still a pain to have to reinstall everything. Our son has a better laptop then me, it was fun using his for the past week.

Our daughter is coming home today to celebrate her 20th birthday tomorrow. We have a party and celebrate her birthday, my dad's birthday and mine all at once. Good times....

I'm guessing this is about 1958.

Anyways, today is his 70th birthday and he is probably celebrating by working. If my dad has taught me one thing.... it's that hard work is how you make it in this world. I've had some sort of job since I've been 12 years old.

One of my favorite memories was when I was 14 or so and I had a Sunday morning paper route. Whenever it was raining on Sunday mornings, I'd go into my parents bedroom and wake him up and ask him to "help" with delivering the papers.

We would do the paper route and then go to Dunkin' Donuts and have breakfast....good times. I think he enjoyed rainy Sunday mornings as much as I did.

He's still out there working full time at age 70 not because he has to, it's because he'd probably drive my mom up the wall if he was home all day goofing off.

He's one of the hardest working guys I know and he's my pop.

I love you dad:-)

One of these days he's gonna retire and drive my mom crazy.

....My laptop is on it's way back to me, hopefully it's uptight and outtasight, because while the Indian tech support guy I spoke to was very professional-I don't wanna have to deal with the language barrier again.

It was annoying having to ask him to repeat nearly everything he said. I had a fairly straightforward situation, I'd hate to have a complicated problem to explain to someone that doesn't speak English very well.

I bought a laptop made by an American company that was manufactured in China that has tech support from India. It's a multi-cultural world out there.....I just have a hard time understanding foreign accents over a long distance phone connection.

This guy makes a lot of sense.

This guy is a scumbag, but he still has freedom of speech like anyone else in America...Congress should do something constructive...if that's possible.

What the heck kind of fish is that? Possible NSFW ads.

I usually ignore, but sometimes it's fun to engage for some laughs.

Don't steal or do drugs or this will happen.

This is a used car with lots of miles.

I like this lady.

Better living through chemistry....donuts with caffeine.
