The difference.......

The difference between college educated folks and folks like me....

One day a guy visits Harvard and while there on campus he asks a fellow passing by, "Excuse me sir, could you tell me where the student union is at?"

"We here at Harvard don't end our sentences in prepositions."

"Oh. OK. Well, could you tell me where the student union is at,
asshole?"

I can be an asshole, but not like that.....

Bikes and food...

Doug sent me this link to a cardboard bicycle. I like the concept but he better figure out how to make a bike that supports more than 168 pounds. Take a walk around a supermarket and you'll see what I mean.

Having said that....my son and I are heading out for strawberry crepes this morning.

Yum.

No worries, we're gonna walk to the restaurant. We might have to call a cab to get home though........

Back in business

I got my Surly back from my LBS and it's like having a brand new bike. New cables, housings, chainrings, cassette, a tune up and new bar tape. Very nice job guys-I'm good to go for another 5 years.

My buddy Matt was manning the register yesterday and he gave me a flyer for these fine folks...if you're local-drop'em a couple bucks, it's for a good cause. If you aren't local? Send them a few bucks anyways.

I'm in the middle of a two week stretch with one evening off and I'm busy with computer stuff....when it rains it pours.

It's hot out.............

How hot is it?

Both of my ovens at work overheated.

They have some sort of circuit/logic board similar to a microwave oven and both off them shut off. Then the back-up system on one of the ovens also shut off. Since I make enough stuff ahead of time to fill both ovens most of the night....it was kinda not fun figuring out how to get everything made.

How hot was it?

I drank 96 oz's of water and only had to pee once all evening.

Not sure what it is about the heat...I used to love hot weather. Now? Not so much, it really takes it out of me....I slept 11 1/2 hours yesterday and right now after getting off from another shift....I'm ready for another good long sleep.

Doug sent me this. I'm not sure if that rider was sharing or not but if I was in charge of the whole bottle.....I'd be in a ditch sleeping off a hangover. Thanks bro.

Scraper bikes....yeah, I'm sure some folks aren't digging where these guys are coming from, but I like the bikes and the song......in fact, it's been stuck in my head for the last couple days. I'm not sure if my Kona BikeHotRod qualifies as a scraper bike...but I know if I showed up in Oakland with it, I'd probably get laughed at or killed. Or both.

Best "Fail" picture ever.

I'm going to bed.......

Tip your server.......

I took my mom out for lunch yesterday and I'm pretty sure waitressing is one tough way to make a living.

I'll be honest, I'm a fairly generous tipper if I get good service...our bill yesterday was 26 bucks and I left 6 bucks for a tip. That's a shade over 20% but our service was outstanding. A family of four sitting next to us left 2 dollars for their tip.

If I was a waiter....I'd have a hard time not slapping the crap out of poor tippers.

Anyways, my mom and I had a great lunch just shooting the breeze- a month out from her knee replacement...she's doing pretty darn good. The psychical therapy is kicking her ass, but that's almost over and I'm sure she's glad of that.....it's kinda like paying someone to torture you.

Since my mom and I are only 17 years apart, we tend to think alike on lots of subjects so it's fun to sit down and pick each others brains concerning the issues.

If you're lucky enough to have your folks around..take them out to lunch just for the heck of it and have some conversation with them....most parents are usually a lot wiser than you and have lots of great stories to tell.

At some point this week, I'll be talking to someone in the media concerning the clearcutting going on down at Kain Park....should be interesting....I'm not one to keep my opinion to myself when it comes to something like this.

You know....I have a feeling the Bush administration is gonna be in the news long after next January.

I was at the opposite end of town yesterday getting computer prices for a client and on the way back, I passed quite a few automobile dealerships. Now would be a really good time to buy that SUV you've had your eye on.....I saw lot after lot packed full of new ones just sitting unsold.

Me? I want a motorized bicycle. 150 miles to the gallon would be nice.

I'm not in the market for a new car though. I'll be driving my paid for 9 year old 15 mpg minivan until the wheels fall off of it. I'm kind of hoping to buy a Smart car or an electric car at that point.....you know what they say-sometimes less is more.

Just in case you're stupid......

You need to pick up a set of these cables. For the uninformed or folks that aren't technically minded...you can get the same thing at Radio Shack for less than 10 bucks. Read some of the reviews, they're hilarious.

Never underestimate the gullibility of the American public to under-handed marketing. Since I work in a supermarket-I see it all the time. Change the shape of a container and put an ounce less product inside and it's "New and Improved"...what a deal.

This guy makes my brain hurt.

Dumb joke time....

I was a very happy man.

My wonderful girlfriend and I had been dating for over a year, and so we decided to get married. There was only one little thing bothering me - it was her beautiful younger sister.

My prospective sister-in-law was twenty-two, wore very tight miniskirts, and generally was bra-less. She would regularly bend down when she was near me, and I always got more than a nice view.

It had to be deliberate.

Because she never did it when she was near anyone else.
One day her "little" sister called and asked me to come over to check the wedding invitations. She was alone when I arrived, and she whispered to me that she had feelings and desires for me that she couldn't overcome.

She told me that she wanted me just once before I got married and committed my life to her sister. Well, I was in total shock, and couldn't say a word.
She said, "I'm going upstairs to my bedroom, and if you want one last wild fling, just come up and get me."

I was stunned and frozen in shock as I watched her go up the stairs. I stood there for a moment, then turned and made a beeline straight to the front door.

I opened the door, and headed straight towards my car. Lo and behold, my entire future family was standing outside, all clapping!

With tears in his eyes, my father-in-law hugged me and said, "We are very happy that you have passed our little test. We couldn't ask for a better man for our daughter.

Welcome to the family."

And the moral of this story is:

Always keep your condoms in your car.

Yikes.

Everything is spinning out of control...pleeeease. My opinion? It's pretty much the same stuff that's been happening for the last 200 years. For better or worse, the only thing that's different is the media that reports it.

That's a big ball........today's science break.

I have a new feature starting with this blog post. In addition to "science, history and picture breaks.....I'm going to have "Links That Make You Think"

This link will make you think. Ugly.

The bucket list........

A friend of mine is getting ready to retire and last night we were discussing our "bucket lists"

Me? Here's a tentative list....

Since I never went to college.....I'd like to see both of my kids graduate and when I retire....I'd like to try it out. Right now, I'm just to damn busy to enjoy it, so I want to do it at my pace. I might only take 1 or 2 classes a semester, but I want to do it just to say I did it.

Take some trips with my lovely wife. Nothing too complicated....maybe just jump in the car or a train and disappear for a couple weeks with no agenda. I would like to go to Ireland and kiss the Blarney Stone.

Buy a small scooter or a moped. Yeah, I know it sounds like a monumental waste of money but I miss being able to ride 60 or 70 miles at a clip on my bicycle....I like the feeling of the wind on my large forehead and being able to spend time outside.

Fly around in a small airplane for a couple hours. I have no interest in piloting the plane, I just want to see stuff from high up.

Go on a cruise that visits Hawaii and Alaska. It'd be an awful long cruise but my wife and I would spend lots of time people watching and reading books.

So far, I think I've spent a couple hundred thousand dollars we don't have so I'll quit while I'm ahead..........

Overhaul time.....

After somewhere in the neighborhood of 5000 miles.....my beloved Surly Cross-Check is in the shop for an overhaul.

New cables, housings, brakes and a new drivetrain is a small price to pay for all the fun I get out of that bike.

I may have different computers, cars or gadgets or even different bikes...but as long as the frame holds up- I'll be out there riding it.

Someday I'd like to get one of these just for fun.....I guess it's cheaper than a mid-life crisis sports car.....

How was everyone's Father's Day? Me? I rode 20 miles with my buddy Hank, cut the grass, visited my folks and goofed off. All in all, a pretty darn nice day.

I love me some Ice Road Truckers. One helluva way to make a living. I think I'll stick to making donuts.

Wow......who woulda thunk it?

Here's my official apology.

Baconhenge...looks kinda tasty.

How to make sure your gunpowder is still good.

Post Turtle..........

A quick joke.......

While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75 year old Texas rancher, whose hand was caught in a gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man.

Eventually the topic got around to McCain and his bid to be our President.

The old rancher said, 'Well, ya know, 'McCain is a 'post turtle'.

Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what's a 'post turtle'?

The old rancher says, 'When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top ,feet a'flailing in the air, that's a 'post turtle'.

'You know he didn't get up there by himself, he doesn't belong up there, he doesn't know what to do while he is up there, and you just wonder what kind of a dumb ass put him up there.'

I love me some summer.....

Best part of summer? Coming home at 5AM and it's already getting light out. Worst part? It was pretty darn hot yesterday on my day off. I stayed inside. I'm turning into a temperature wuss.

Motorized cooler? Wow, this guy is a dumbass....being arrested while you're driving a beer cooler is a great legacy to leave your family. Update...this guy might be dumber.

3 doobies every hour you are awake isn't a good idea. Seriously, you'd be so baked smoking that much dope....you wouldn't care if you were gonna die.

Wow...these are some incredibly bad tattoos. I want to get a four leaf clover (I'm Irish) on myA four-leaf clover is often considered to bestow good luck upper bicep where very few people would see it, but looking at those tats gives me second thoughts.

Mmmm donuts. As much as I enjoy making donuts-there ain't no way I'd start my own place up. Too much work and our area is already saturated with shops.

Dumb joke time....

In 1986, Peter Davies was on holiday in Kenya after graduating from Northwestern University

On a hike through the bush, he came across a young bull elephant standing with one leg raised in the air. The elephant seemed distressed, so Peter approached it very carefully.

He got down on one knee and inspected the elephant's foot and found a large piece of wood deeply embedded in it. As carefully and as gently as he could, Peter worked the wood out with his hunting knife, after which the elephant gingerly put down its foot.

The elephant turned to face the man, and with a rather curious look on its face, stared at him for several tense moments. Peter stood frozen, thinking of nothing else but being trampled. Eventually the elephant trumpeted loudly, turned, and walked away.

Peter never forgot that elephant or the events of that day.

Twenty years later, Peter was walking through the Chicago Zoo with his teenaged son. As they approached the elephant enclosure, one of the creatures turned and walked over to near where Peter and his son Cameron were standing.

The large bull elephant stared at Peter, lifted its front foot off the ground, then put it down. The elephant did that several times then trumpeted loudly, all the while staring at the man.

Remembering the encounter in 1986, Peter couldn't help wondering if this was the same elephant. Peter summoned up his courage, climbed over the railing and made his way into the enclosure.

He walked right up to the elephant and stared back in wonder. The elephant trumpeted again, wrapped its trunk around one of Peter legs and slammed his stupid ass against the railing, killing him instantly.

Probably wasn't the same elephant.

Indeed...

Cool sounds. Click the icons on top of the page for more recordings....stick them on your iPod and chill. Kinda offbeat stuff, but you're here reading my blog, so whaddya expect?

I bet the people that paid 500 bucks for one last year are a little pissed.

Actually, I haven't ever given a panhandler money....hell, some of them make more money then I do.

Some seriously cool space pictures.

Holy crap, that's one big dog.

Britain is going to hell in a brand new hand cart.

I'd buy one in a New York minute....one of our 2 cars could easily be an electric car.

Make your own caption......mine would be "You best step off shorty"

This might be worth the 40 bucks to tell a few of my old bosses to kiss my ass.....assuming I get a ride in the "up" elevator.

Never on Sunday........

Never on SundayNight (day) off time.....I'm sitting here at about 5AM Sunday morning and after sweating my ass off for 8 hours.....you ain't gonna pry my ass out of my air conditioned house today. I'm gonna goof off today and visit my parents. I should be accustomed to the heat but sometimes it really takes it out of you.

I think I'll be taking a ride at this time tomorrow while it's still relatively cool out....it's light out by 5:30AM, so why not?

I'm playing around with some new blogging software, you notice different formatting and some different links and pictures.....not sure if I'll keep using it or not. Right now I'm checking out some of the different features-so bear with me for a couple of posts....

Ever wondered how big something is? This site takes the mystery out of it.

You're gonna spend way too much time on this site checking out dumb videos. There's a lot of good videos as well, but this one is my favorite so far.

If you're a dog...run.

Today's science break.....well it's more of a medical break-but it's still way cool.

Think about this the next time you make a cellphone call.

If anyone reading this has access to eight cellphones.....I'd love to know if this is the real deal or not....that's some scary sh*t.

Nine meals away from anarchy. At least I'd get first shot at the good groceries.

We shoulda seen this coming.

You're gonna die.

Hillary finally gives it up. Hopefully her and Bill will go back to New York and stay there. Does Obama have a shot at winning in November? Beats the hell out of me, all I know is that he is a much better public speaker than McCain and that will serve him well in the upcoming months. McCain is bringing a dull knife to a gunfight.....seriously, there is no way anybody can tell me McCain has his shit together-if he wants to have a chance to win-he's gonna have to take his brain off of autopilot....the guy is a douchebag for deserting his first wife-ain't no way I can respect a guy like that. Let alone vote for him to be President.

Hey fellas....watch this......I wonder how long it took for him to think "oh shit"

What's wrong with this page?

This is excellent.\\till later

It always surprises me......

The changeover from spring to summer usually happens in the space of a week around here. 2 weeks ago, it was in the 50's and 60's....this weekend is calling for temps in the mid 90's.

I've gotten smart at work, I've bought myself a small fan and place it wherever I happen to be working. I don't mind the heat so much, it's the humidity that makes me cranky. As long as there is air moving....I can deal.

Not sure how our service people over in the Middle East deal with all the heat....all I'm wearing is a thin cotton work shirt and an apron-those folks are carrying around 70 pounds of stuff with them.

Woo hoo.....4200 street rods are here. Even with 4 dollar a gallon gas, they still show up and totally clog traffic on that end of town for the entire weekend. At least it's more fun than golf.

Remember the guy in the chair from yesterday? Here's todays idiot.

I'd hate to see what it's like when the government decides we are actually in a recession....this might be a good indication.

Less posting, more slacking....

This is our son's last week of school until the end of August and as such....I don't have a reason to stay up until 8AM every morning because he won't be needing a ride to school.

Whats that mean for you my loyal readers?

Unfortunately, less posting.

I get off work at 4:30 in the morning and I'll be hitting the sack by 6 AM everyday. Summer is my favorite time of the year- I am usually up by 2 or 3 in the afternoon and have lots of daylight time to act like a kid before I head off to the donut ranch every night.

I'll still be posting stuff I see that's funny and who knows-I might get a wild hair up my butt and do a few long posts here and there, but don't hold your breath.

Wow......what's everyone think about the Democratic primary situation? Nah, I'm not linking to any stories....the whole thing makes me want to move to Canada. Not sure how they do stuff in Canada, but they never seem to start any wars and they all seem to get along okay. Plus, donuts are a food group in Canada, so I wouldn't lack for a job.

Hero.....kinda puts all those assholes in Washington in some perspective, huh?

This is a pretty cool event our company (my son and I) are helping this year. We can't send them a whole bunch of money....but every little bit helps.

My mom is kicking ass with her knee replacement therapy. She should be done with the therapists visits in a week or two. The way my knees feel this morning- I want to sign up for new knees as well. People out there have worse problems than sore knees.....I damn lucky overall so I guess you have to take some bad with the good.
