Random crap.

Politics...can we just elect a damn President and get it over with early? This election cycle has been dragging on for 17 months-somebody oughta make a law. I do find McCain's choice of VP interesting, I'm not saying he's old (he's the same age as my pop) but, at age 72....running the country for possibly the next 8 years might be kinda stressful. If he strokes out before his VP gets some on the job training.....we might be in a world of poo. I think he just lost himself the election.

Do people realize how damn dumb they look with Bluetooth headsets? Seriously, you look like an escaped mental patient when you walk around talking to yourself. Last night at work, I had 3 people within earshot of me all staring into space talking to themselves.

Ice cream. I swear to God if they resize ice cream containers any smaller-I will go off. I like my ice cream and I want it put back in half-gallon containers....if it costs more-it costs more.

Joggers. You aren't traffic-stay on the damn sidewalk. A controversial viewpoint? Bite me. If there isn't any sidewalk where you are-go jog where there is or hit a hiking or biking trail.

Is there some sort of reason the Federal government hasn't fixed the levees in NOLO? Are they waiting for another hurricane?

Comcast ain't so Comcastic. Sure 250 gigs is a lot but remember when 16 megs of RAM or a 56k modem was the ticket?

Are they sure that's a guitar?

I'm not the only one......

At least now....I'm not the only family member to have ruined a cellphone. Our daughter had a soda open up in her bag and it thoroughly soaked her phone and camera. Thankfully, we had an old cellphone laying around, so I Fed-Ex'd her that and one of my old cameras to use for now.

I'd never thought I'd say this......but I am almost glad summer is over. The hot weather just isn't as much fun as it used to be. I like to be able to modulate how warm or cool I am.....when it's 90 degrees out, it doesn't leave me many fashion options.

Speaking of fashion options....I like this trend. My wife and I were out at the local mall this past weekend and to be honest-most of the tweeners were dressed like tiny little prostitutes.

Wanna sound like an idiot? This is your application. Living in the heart of Pennsyltucky...I know people that actually talk like that.....yaknowwaimeanbuddy?

She lost............get over your own bad self. Diminished role? Her followers should suck it up and be gracious losers. Why even waste the time and money with conventions this year? I'm tired of listening to speeches.

I bought a new blinky to replace the one I lost down in Myrtle Beach.....this is one bright blinky.

Me, like a dumbass turned it on and stared at it....not the sharpest tool in the shed.

Back to school............

Growing up, those were my least favorite three words in the English language. After 3 months of staying up late, camping out in friends backyards, aimless bike rides and pretty much complete freedom....

....the last thing I wanted to do was be cramped up in a freshly painted (I still hate the smell of wet paint) school classroom.

Having said that, our daughter began her 3rd year of college earlier this week, she couldn't wait to get started. Our son feels the same way, I think he has ulterior motives though-he'll get to see more of his girlfriend.

I'm looking forward to some milder weather, I used to dread fall and winter but the older I get-the more I find those seasons to be at least tolerable.

Anyone been following the Presidential race lately?

All I can say is "Is it November yet?"

How long can we beat the issues to death? Both guys have strong points and weak points, I think we oughta have a pay-per-view cage match to decide who wins.

Whatever, I'm taking a nap.

Bad cakes......

My friend Doug sent me this. Since I work in a bakery and can sorta decorate cakes....I kinda feel bad for some of the decorators that have their art featured here.

Some of the others however, are dumbasses.

Mmmmm....

Science geeks only.......

Here's a video representation of the Periodic Table. Click an element and a video pops up with a description of that element.

Yeah, I know it's kinda geeky, but I likey.

Damn potholes...........

Couple nights ago on the way to work, I hit a pothole that was at least a foot wide and 8 inches deep (I went back and looked at it yesterday) When I got to work, I noticed I was missing a hubcap.

Nothing looks dumber than driving around with 3 hubcaps.....so I bought JC Whitney's 2nd cheapest set of wheel covers they sell. I thought I might get a spiffy set of hood louvers or a coffee maker for the back of the van....maybe next time.

In other news.....I have jury duty in September. Should be a learning experience since I've never served before.

My favorite picture is the dog in the dishwasher........

Wow, this can't be for realsies.

Cake fail....

Unless you work in a bakery or decorate cakes.....you probably won't understand what you're seeing in the image below.......

(cake fail)

BOOM!!!!!

About 5 PM last night..........I was sleeping until an extremely loud thunderclap woke me up.

Since we have lots of trees on our block, every once and awhile lightning will hit one of them.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I don't think I've ever seen a tree so completely destroyed like this before.

The tree has several splits running up the length of the trunk. Not sure how they'll remove the tree, there ain't no way I'd want to climb up it......

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

It's split the whole way up.

It's no small wonder I freak out when I'm out riding in the woods when a thunderstorm comes up.

Another vacation........another phone.

Next year, I'm not aloud to take my phone with me to the beach. Why do I need to take my phone to the beach in the first place?

So I can swim with it, of course. Saltwater and phones don't go together well.

Last year I dropped my phone out on a bike ride, next year....I'm not even gonna go there. I bought the cheapest unlocked phone I could find on eBay, hopefully it will last more than 12 months.

My son and I were at the AT&T on Monday so we could buy him his birthday present, he got a new Motorola Razr...nice phone, since he takes care of his stuff-we didn't need to buy the additional insurance.

The customer ahead of me was buying a shiny new 16 gig 3G iPhone.....wow, those plans are expensive! The guy got texting, data, 1200 minutes of phone service, early night and weekend minutes, insurance-add taxes and his monthly bill for one phone is over 100 bucks. I like my tech toys just as much as the next nerd, but that's a lot of money over the course of 2 years.

Anybody reading this blog a hacker? I am. Not in the sense of the word that most folks associate with hacking.....I like to open stuff up and see what makes things tick. One of these years, I's like to attend a HOPE conference, but the next best thing is downloading and listening to all the lectures that were held last month. Lots of good stuff here.

Driving back from Myrtle beach last week on I 95 makes me think that we need tougher driving tests. I watched trains of cars nose to tail going 75 to 80 mph...incredibly stupid.

It's almost like going to a NASCAR race for free..........

Time to head back up the East coast today.

When I get back, I have lots to do so it might be a few days till you see anything written here.

Lazy........

Kinda overdid the bike thing on Wednesday so I sat around and let my knees recover on Thursday.

One helluva thunderstorm rolled in Thursday night and our daughter watched a couple on the beach fly a kite while the storm was going on.

Our daughter calls it "Natural Selection" ....I tend to agree.

So the dumbass got a little sun......

Stayed out a bit too long on the beach yesterday, got a touch of sunburn on my stomach, it's mostly gone now...that'll teach me.

I did a really neat ride yesterday.....I had to look it up on the map to figure out where I was.

I took this picture of the rear of Cherry Grove Beach while I was out there.

Looks pretty far away, huh? That's what I was thinking when I took the picture. I kinda decided to turn around and head back at this point.

Tell me I'm not the only person that does this.....whenever I am swimming in the ocean, I start humming the Hawaii Five-0 theme....okay, it's just me humming.

Hilary sure has some sore losers as supporters.

Two words.........Open DNS. If you don't know what it is, have a tech (like me) set it up on your computer or follow the super easy instructions on their web site.

I don't watch much TV, but this was on last night when we were playing cards......I hope Twitch wins.

Pregnancy tips.

This one will make you think.......

I am so glad...........

I'm so glad we don't sell wine coolers in supermarkets back in PA.....I'd be a total lush. My limit each day on vacation is 2 mixed drinks or beers or I'll get a massive headache, but damn-they have some really tasty wine coolers for sale down here.

Here's a joke my father-in-law will appreciate, since he was an engineer....

Three engineers and three accountants are traveling by train to a conference.

At the station, the three accountants each buy a ticket and watch as the three engineers only buy one ticket.
"How are three people going to travel on only one ticket?" asks an accountant.

"Watch and you'll see," answered an engineer.

They all board the train. The accountants take their respective seats but all three engineers cram into a rest room and close the door behind them.

Shortly after the train has departed, the conductor comes around collecting tickets. He knocks on the restroom door and says, "Tickets, please!" The door opens just a crack and a single arm emerges with a ticket in hand.

The conductor takes it and moves on.
The accountants see this and agree it is a clever idea. So after the conference, the accountants decide to copy the engineers on the return trip and save some money.

When they get to the station, they buy one ticket for the return trip. To their astonishment, the engineers don't buy a ticket at all. "How are you going to travel without a ticket?" says one perplexed accountant.

"Watch and you'll see," answered an engineer.

When they board the train all three accountants cram into a restroom and the three engineers cram into another one nearby. The train departs.

Shortly afterward, one of the engineers leaves his restroom and walks over to the restroom where the accountants are hiding. He knocks on the door and says, "Tickets, please!"

I love it when politicians talk about energy policy.....it's fairly simple as far as I'm concerned-as long as gas cost 4 or 5 bucks a gallon-we'll try to find ways to conserve it. As soon as it drops back down to less than 3 bucks a gallon, we'll all forget about conservation and pretend things are the way they used to be.

Lets nationalize the oil companies and use the profits for nuclear plants and alternative energy....yeah, I know that sounds like a nutjob policy, I guess that's why I make donuts for a living.

Speaking of off the wall policies......Paris Hilton might be our next President.

I'm neither Republican or Democrat ...but I enjoy the heck out of Obama defending his remarks regarding tire pressure. My candidate has absolutely no chance of winning, but I'm voting for him in November instead of not voting at all.

My wife and daughter really want to wax my chest hairs......no way in hell is that ever gonna happen.

The world's most dangerous hiking trail. I've posted this before, but I still get a kick out of the pictures.

I rode about 35 miles yesterday before it got too hot out, I am totally digging the flat roads around here.....I can stick the bike in one gear and leave it there. Very little additional knee pain, so it's all good.

Stefan Didak's Home Office

Puts new meaning to the phrase "over the top".......

Stefan Didak's Home Office

Seriously, I'd be happy to just have his office chair.

Starbucks ain't all that great anyways.......

There's only so much room for 4 dollar a cup overbrewed coffee.

BBC NEWS | Business | Shunned Starbucks in Aussie exit

I feel bad for this kid......

He's been pictured in every child obesity article for a couple years now....time to give the kid a break and find a new picture.

Fast Food Restaurants Serve Up Unhealthy Choices For Kids

One thing I forget to mention.....

One the way down here, we saw at least a dozen (and probably more) people with blown tires. In fact I was right next to someone when they popped a rear tire. They swerved a little bit and managed to pull off safely.

Also as we were on the Baltimore Beltway, it was pouring rain and a truck jack knifed right in front of us.

We drove the whole way down I 95 at the speed limit and I think we passed 3 or 4 vehicles the whole time. How many passed us?

Lots.

It was way more relaxing to stay out of the passing lane and just take our time. Most of the folks driving in the passing lane were going at least 75 mph and were nose to tail in 30 car strings. We planned for the trip to take 10 or 11 hours and we made it here in just under 10, so things worked out just fine and we didn't have any blown tires.

Anyone ever play Rummikube? Holy cow, that's a fun game. It's even better if some of the people playing have a few cocktails.....that's all I'm saying about that. It's only time of the year when I will drink beer or mixed drinks on a regular basis....so I manage to have a good time.

I'm still amazed about how darn hot it is down here.....it is totally in your face by 10 AM. Of course, August is the hottest month of the year to come visit, but it's not often you get to experience 95 degrees and stifling humidity.

This is Tuesday at about 5 AM as I write this and so far..........no sunburn. When I was a kid, I'd lay out in the sun for hours.

Now?

Not so much.

I am slathering on SPF 30 and limiting myself to about 2 hours in the morning at the beach......a vacation with sunburn ain't much fun.

I did make mention of the photo album I made with pictures of the week, but here's the link again in case you missed it. My favorite picture so far..........

I kinda like this one.

One of the reasons.....

One of the reasons we love coming to Myrtle Beach is the water. It's almost like bath water and you can see your feet when you are chest deep in it. The water off of New Jersey or Maryland? Not so much.

Another reason is Boulineau's IGA. It's a grocery store with all kinds of other stuff like sporting goods, clothes, wine and beer and a way cool bakery. I bought some donuts from there and talked to one of the bakers yesterday. Turns out the guy is from Reading PA and we know some of the same people. Small world.

We don't sell beer and wine in our grocery store in PA, the whole concept is kinda cool. I'd probably end up drinking more beer if we did....I like trying new stuff, I bought a 6 pack of Corona and it's already almost gone.....

Maybe it's a good thing we don't sell beer in grocery stores where I live.

As long as I have internet access, I'll be loading up pictures I take everyday....enjoy.

till later.

Myrtle Beach

We made great time driving down the East Coast Saturday.....too good because we got here about an hour too early and our house wasn't ready for us.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Nice house, huh? Looks like 2 units but it's just one house.

Not that big a deal, we stopped at a random pizza place and my wife ordered a white pizza with spinach.

Probably the best pizza I've ever had...so things always seem to work out if you let them.

One thing I definitely don't like as much as I used to is the heat....it is like a blast furnace. When you walk outside, it feels the same as when I open the full sized door of one of my commercial ovens to pull product out.

We did go up to the beach for a bit last night, the rip tide was pretty bad, the kids would go in up to thier stomachs and would end up 50 yards down the beach in a matter of minutes.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
My son and one of his cousins.

One more thing before I go.......my wife is a packing genius. She had enough stuff packed in our van for a family of four to live on the moon for a month and you could still see out the back.

She's good.
