Boycott "Big Oil"

A friend of mine sent me this and I thought the concept was kinda interesting...........

Join the resistance!!!! I hear we are going to hit close to $4.00 a gallon by next summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action. Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea.

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.

BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read on and join with us! By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $1.50 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $2.79 for regular unleaded in my town. Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50 - $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace..... not sellers.

With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.

Here's the idea:

For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.

But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out at this point.... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people.

I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us sends it to at least ten more (30 x 10 =3D 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 =3D 3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers. If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it.... THREE>>>>HUNDRED MILLION >>>>PEOPLE!!!

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all. (If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician. But I am, so trust me on this one.)

How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!!

I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you?

Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. I suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN.

THIS CAN REALLY WORK.

Not too much of a problem for me to implement this, I already buy a different brand of gas. Not too sure if the whole "chain letter" thing will work as well as a bunch of people seeing this and posting it in their blogs.

One other thing that would work is to ride your bike more. Since it's getting warmer out, there's no reason not to use a bike for short trips and light errands....................

Our next door neighbor just bought a new bike........

Okay, it's not a bicycle, but it sure is a purty motorcycle.

I'm so glad all my friends and family enjoyed my link to that web page hosting those "illusions" yesterday. I have a feeling that my buddy that lives in Baltimore would like to drive up to York and personally thank me.

I can just feel the love.

After I scared the crap out of my mother with it, I suggest that she show it to my pop. Sorry dad, but maybe now we are even for the "egg salad in a blender" incident. He actually thought it was funny, I forgot he suffered a heart attack 25 years ago...........oops. Sure glad he didn't keel, I woulda felt bad.

That's it for today, be careful out there.........

Yard work extravaganza 2006

I've been putting it off for the past several weeks but it's finally time. Time to rake up last years leaves and bag up 9 million dead tree branches and trim some shrubbery.

One bright spot, my mower started up on the first pull after storing it uncovered all winter. It's hard to beat the quality of those $99 Wal-Mart lawn mowers, this is it's 5th year so it's cost me 20 bucks a year.............maybe I should change the oil this year.

This guy keeps getting stranger and stranger. I was planning to see Mission Impossible III but I'd have a hard time sitting through it imagining Tom doing some of the strange stuff he does.

I only have one traffic signal on the way to work but this could come in handy for folks that have a long city commute. Just don't get caught, I don't think it's legal.

It's a shame that some good Republicans are gonna get voted out of office this fall, but if Bush had a higher then room temperature IQ and wasn't so damn arrogant-the country wouldn't be fighting a war that we'll never win. All I know is that whoever I vote for in November...I won't be voting for any Republicans.

Cool optical illusions.

Today's "dumbass of the day".

Unnecessary Censorship part 13.....

I like these 2 ads from Volkswagen. Safe Happens. That's a pretty cool advertising campaign. It's kind of like the one that Firestone did a few years ago right after the Ford Explorer debacle. They had Mario Andretti stand on the 4th corner at Indy talking about the safety of Firestone tires and just as he finishes speaking, an Indy car driven by his son comes by at about 200mph and drives by him with a few feet to spare.......the ads stick in your mind.

This dudes kinda being a tightass. I've been dealing with a few of them lately........NSFW due to the F-bomb being dropped a few times.....

I might be wrong about Rumsfeld resigning. It's because of the difference between involvement and commitment. When you have a ham and egg breakfast, the chicken is involved, but the pig is committed. George Bush is committed to Rumsfeld.

Gas is 3 bucks a gallon again. Looks like it's going to go up even more. I'm so glad I don't own one of those huge v-8 powered SUV's. My mini-van gets close to 20 mpg. That's not that great but I only drive it 5 to 6,000 miles a year, unlike this guy who spends way more time commuting then I do.

"I'm the decider and I decide what's best" George Bush sounds like my dad talking to me when I was about 8 years old.

My lovely wife caught the edge of a curb with her car and got a flat, but it coulda been way worse because she didn't damage the wheel. I'm sure one of the fancy alloy wheels on her Outback costs a few hunderd bucks....

I was sleeping when she did it so my dad came to her rescue. Worked out okay because my pop works for a large tire wholesaler and can get her fixed up in no time. Sometimes things just work out:-)

Don't be a jerk........

The Waiter Rule. This rule works for just about anyone in retail. I've waited on some people that have been real assholes to me and have have met them later in social situations. Amazingly, most folks don't realize what assholes they are when they treat "service people" like dirt.

If you receive bad service in a store or a restuarant, sometimes it's not your fault, but most of the time.......if you act like an asshole to someone in retail-expect to be treated like one.

Recently, I had a gentleman come in to our store at 11PM at night and explained that he totally forgot to order breakfast trays for a business meeting he was holding at 6AM the next morning. It would have been extremely easy to just tell the guy there wasn't any way I could help him, but I fixed him up with what he needed because he was asked nicely.

When he picked his order up at 5AM the next morning (not much sleep for him!) he insisted on giving me a 10 dollar tip. I tried to tell him I'm not allowed to take tips, but he wouldn't hear of it..........

Web page about the SR-71. Coast to coast in 64 minutes. I'd say that was a pretty damn fast airplane.

Today's "You've got to be kidding me" link.

The RIAA will probably have this site shut down before long. I downloaded some rare Beach Boys recording outtakes.....

This has got to be the most incredibly bad deal on a computer EVER.

I spent a bout 4 hours detailing my wife's car on Saturday, it's amazing how scratched up and dirty a car can get in between wax jobs. I also found a banana peel under the seat. Yuck.

How was everyones Easter? I found out the history of Easter candy and why it's associated with Easter.

We went over to my in-laws house for brunch. I put some stuff on my plate that I thought was potato salad but it wasn't.

It was pickled herring.

Holy Mother of God, I thought it was spoiled or something. It really tasted bad. My wife thought it was hilarious, so I put what was left on her plate so she had to eat it. She threw it out of course, she ain't dumb.

It was almost as bad as the time my dad made egg salad in a blender and tried to make me eat it. He coulda beat me with a stick, there was no way in hell I was gonna eat something that looked like it came out of a babies diaper. I'm not sure where my mom was that day, but thank God she backed me up when she got home.

I always loved you best Mom.

I was going to go for a ride Sunday morning but I got a wild hair up my ass and decided to wash and wax my van. I thought my wife's car was dirty, I haven't hand washed the van since last October.........it was pretty crusty.

If Rummy hasn't resigned by the time I post this blog entry........I'll be surprised. Him and Dick Cheney sound like arrogant bastards.

My dad might be getting a new camera. I'd kill (not really, but I might eat a bowl of pickled herring) for one of those. That's a sweet camera.

Google Calendar. This is pretty spiffy. I probably won't use it much as I don't do too much day planning, I usually don't even wear a watch so a calendar ain't gonna do me much good.

Get more stuff here...... I like this site.

I wonder if the phrase "You're doing a heck of a job" has Rumsfeld a little worried. If I was Rummy, I'd be worried.

This is just wrong. While I choose not to put anything into my lungs except air, I think marijuana should be treated the same as alcohol. If you're 21 and over- it should be legal.

If you're caught driving while you're under the influence..........I think you should lose your license.

Permanently.

One strike and you're out. Sounds hardcore but 25,000 people a year die in alcohol related traffic accidents. Get caught driving with no license and spend a year in PMITA Federal prison.

Good article........I haven't read the whole thing yet, I'll finish it later maybe.

Not sure how Easter got associated with bunny rabbits and such but have a safe and happy Easter.

Free speech.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

As of this morning, I am still unable to make any comments on the YAMBA website, I e-mailed the club's president 3 days ago and asked what the criteria are for banning someone from the site. I haven't posted anything objectionable to my knowledge and I am a contributing member to the club. I have a family membership ($15) which should allow any member of my family access to the site. Maybe I'll have my son or my wife sign up for an account on the site and see what happens.........

"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

Just because you don't like my opinion isn't a reason to block my access to the site. Communist China tries to control free speech in the same manner and it doesn't work that well. Go to the YAMBA site and e-mail the president of the club and ask him what's up, he doesn't reply to my e-mails...........

Last time I checked, freedom of speech was still in the Bill of Rights. It's just not on the YAMBA site. You can ignore me, but I ain't gonna go away.

Undocumented aliens? This whole debate makes no sense to me. Aren't all of us except Native Americans immigrants? Give them citizenship, I'm sure they would be more then happy to pay taxes for the security of not having to worry about being deported.

I'm betting that they were surplus FEMA trailers. I'd like to think that someone near George Bush has some brains...........maybe not.

It's not all bad news....I hope this works out for her.

Tons of free utilities. Free is good.

Supposedly a true long (but good) story

Dear Maid,
Please do not leave any more of those little bars of soap in my bathroom since I have brought my own bath-sized Dial. Please remove the six unopened little bars from the shelf under the medicine chest and another three in the shower soap dish. They are in my way.

Thank you,
S. Berman

Dear Room 635,
I am not your regular maid. She will be back tomorrow, Thursday, from her day off. I took the three hotel soaps out of the shower soap dish as you requested. The six bars on your shelf I took out of your way and put on top of your Kleenex dispenser in case you should change your mind.

This leaves only the three bars I left today, as my instructions from the management are to leave three soaps daily.

I hope this is satisfactory.

Kathy
Relief Maid

Dear Maid -- I hope you are my regular maid.
Apparently Kathy did not tell you about my note to her concerning the little bars of soap. When I got back to my room this evening I found you had added three little Camays to the shelf under my medicine cabinet.

I am going to be here in the hotel for two weeks and have brought my own bath-size Dial so I won't need those 6 little Camays which are on the shelf. They are in my way when shaving, brushing teeth, etc.

Please remove them.
S. Berman

Dear Mr. Berman,
My day off was last Wednesday so the relief maid left three hotel soaps which we are instructed to do by the management. I took the six soaps which were in your way on the shelf and put them in the soap dish where your Dial was. I put the Dial in the medicine cabinet for your convenience. I didn't remove the three complimentary soaps which are always placed inside the medicine cabinet for all new check-ins and which you did not object to when you checked in last Monday.

Please let me know if I can of further assistance.

Your regular maid,
Dotty

Dear Mr. Berman,
The assistant manager, Mr. Kensedder, informed me this A.M. that you called him last evening and said you were unhappy with your maid service. I have assigned a new girl to your room. I hope you will accept my apologies for any past inconvenience.

If you have any future complaints please contact me so I can give it my personal
attention. Call extension 1108 between 8AM and 5PM.

Thank you,
Elaine Carmen
Housekeeper

Dear Miss Carmen,
It is impossible to contact you by phone since I leave the hotel for business at 7:45 AM and don't get back before 5:30 or 6PM. That's the reason I called Mr. Kensedder last night. You were already off duty.

I only asked Mr. Kensedder if he could do anything about those little bars of soap. The new maid you assigned me must have thought I was a new check-in today, since she left another three bars of hotel soap in my medicine cabinet along with her regular delivery of three bars on the bath-room shelf.

In just five days here I have accumulated 24 little bars of soap.

Why are you doing this to me?

S. Berman

Dear Mr. Berman,
Your maid, Kathy, has been instructed to stop delivering soap to your room and remove the extra soaps.

If I can be of further assistance, please call extension 1108 between 8AM and 5PM.

Thank you,
Elaine Carmen
Housekeeper

Dear Mr. Kensedder,
My bath-size Dial is missing. Every bar of soap was taken from my room including my own bath-size Dial. I came in late last night and had to call the bellhop to bring me 4 little Cashmere Bouquets.

S. Berman

Dear Mr. Berman,
I have informed our housekeeper, Elaine Carmen, of your soap problem.

I cannot understand why there was no soap in your room since our maids are instructed to leave three bars of soap each time they service a room. The situation will be rectified immediately.

Please accept my apologies for the inconvenience.

Martin L. Kensedder
Assistant Manager

Dear Mrs. Carmen,
Who the hell left 54 little bars of Camay in my room? I came in last night and found 54 little bars of soap. I don't want 54 little bars of Camay. I want my one damn bar of bath-size Dial. Do you realize I have 54 bars of soap in here?!

All I want is my bath size Dial.

Please give me back my bath-size Dial.

S. Berman

Dear Mr. Berman,
You complained of too much soap in your room so I had them removed. Then you complained to Mr. Kensedder that all your soap was missing so I personally returned them.

The 24 Camays which had been taken and the three Camays you are supposed to receive daily (sic). I don't know anything about the 4 Cashmere Bouquets.

Obviously your maid, Kathy, did not know I had returned your soaps so she also brought 24 Camays plus the three daily Camays. I don't know where you got the idea this hotel issues bath-size Dial. I was able to locate some bath-size Ivory which I left in your room.

Elaine Carmen
Housekeeper

Dear Mrs. Carmen,
Just a short note to bring you up-to-date on my latest soap inventory. As of today I possess:

- On shelf under medicine cabinet - 18 Camay in 4 stacks of 4 and 1 stack of 2.
- On Kleenex dispenser - 11 Camay in 2 stacks of 4 and 1 stack of 3.
- On bedroom dresser - 1 stack of 3 Cashmere Bouquet, 1 stack of 4 hotel-size Ivory, and 8 Camay in 2 stacks of 4.
- Inside medicine cabinet - 14 Camay in 3 stacks of 4 and 1 stack of 2.
- In shower soap dish - 6 Camay, very moist.
- On northeast corner of tub - 1 Cashmere Bouquet, slightly used.
- On northwest corner of tub - 6 Camays in 2 stacks of 3.

Please ask Kathy when she services my room to make sure the stacks are neatly piled and dusted. Also, please advise her that stacks of more than 4 have a tendency to tip. May I suggest that my bedroom window sill is not in use and will make an excellent spot for future soap deliveries.

One more item: I have purchased another bar of bath-sized Dial which I am keeping in the hotel vault in order to avoid further misunderstandings.

Important video from C-Span.

The critics have been silenced.......

The critics being myself and my friend Hank.......

Click to make bigger. I've been banned from making any comments on our club's message board. I suppose that's one way to shut me up........All in all, an extremely immature action on the club presidents part. I emailed him about it two days ago and he hasn't replied, so I guessing that he's ignoring me.

Whatever.

I guess it's no secret that the president of our club and I haven't exchanged Christmas cards for the past couple of years. For the past several years York Water has been logging different areas of Kain Park hoping no one would make much of a stink. Every year when it happens, some of the club members would get upset and post a few messages and that was that.

Not once did the president of our club publicly speak out or publicly criticize what was going on. Not even a petition was circulated among members to hand in to the water company. Last year he did arrange a meeting with our members and the water company which resulted in............more logging this year.

The fact that our club president is also the county parks advisory board president is a good thing but since the vice president of the water company was also on the same board up until last year and the fact that they are friends creates a conflict of interest in my opinion. I might be totally off-base.........but that's how I feel.

Both the guys I am talking about are super nice guys but that doesn't change the fact that the forest at Kain Park is getting hacked up piece by piece every year.

The fact that myself and Hank went to the local media was made out to be a bad thing on our club's website by our president like somehow he wanted less publicity and make less waves................oh, I forgot, his buddy is the vice president of the water company...........we wouldn't want to piss him off, would we?

At least we got an article in the morning paper to make more folks aware of what the water company is doing and I saw this letter in the evening paper last night...........

County should target Kain Park
Opinion by Rick Altland York Township

Having lived in York County my entire life, I have followed the eminent domain battle in the eastern park of the county with mixed emotions and thoughts.

What of the right of personal property and your rights to do with it as you please? But aren't zoning laws stopping you from doing just that?

Do we really need another open-area park? Don't we have enough area now to support our citizens' outdoor enjoyments? One would think so, since some of those parks have low usage by the general citizens of the county.

But, I would imagine, from the folks who use those parks you would get a different answer since they are being used to walk, bird watch, ride a bike or horse, or just enjoy the solitude of nature.

One such area has always been the William H. Kain Park between York and Jacobus. Having lived next to the park on Reynolds Mill Road for the last 28 years, my family has had a unique opportunity to enjoy

This area with no more than a short walk from our back door. Anyone who has used the trails has enjoyed a unique experience that I believe is unmatched in any other park in the county.

The trails are wide, spacious and totally tree-covered with towering 30-foot pines and some hardwood. It was possible to enter into the park on the Lake Williams side and follow those tree- covered trails for hours if you so chose.

The solitude and quiet were unbelievable with the only sounds being those of the birds or of the flocks of geese in the spring and fall.

Coming upon a vista of the open lake or crossing the Lake Williams' dam was always breathtaking any time of the day or year. Then of course there was the almost secret sighting of the signs of the resident beavers and their distinctive mounds.

About eight years ago I started to enjoy the park on a mountain bike. I am sure, to some, I'm an obtrusion to their walking or bird watching or riding a horse, but we all shared the same love of the park, its unique beauty.

Three years ago a degenerative knee stopped me from enjoying the sport and the park, but last summer a knee replacement made the sport a possibility again.

Sunday was my latest adventure into the park I loved to enjoy. What I found broke my heart.

Sure I witnessed the loss of trees along the Old Trail on the knob overlooking Lake Redman and the eventual loss of those trails to development -- and last year the clear-cutting of the trees just down the street from my home on Reynolds Mill Road.

I was sure this was not the norm, but were my eyes opened on Sunday.

The entire park is in danger of being destroyed by logging. The whole south end of the park, as we speak, is lined with dozers and loggers clear-cutting the hills and destroying those tree-lined trails.

What you now have is nothing but dusty, open, windy and noisy (yes you can now hear the traffic on I-83) bald hills.

Who is going to want to enjoy these areas? Not the bird watcher I passed on Sunday, nor the family walking their dog. It is no longer an enjoyable place to be. So what will happen to those of us who have frequented the park? We will stop using it, since it no longer represents what we have loved and enjoyed.

With the loss of patrons and the stretched York County Park Service dollars I sure the area will be dropped out of the system. Then what happens to the land?

Is that the master plan, to sell off all the land to developers and to make more money for the York Water Co. and their investors?

Who else stands to benefit from this? Surely not the residents of York County. As the water company has expanded into each small town or burg across the county, have they lost sight of the benefits to the community? Or are they just a slave to the bottom line?

Where are the York County commissioners now? Why spend millions on land that presently is open farmland. Do we need more open-space parks for ball fields and pavilions? Or do we need to save and enrich the unique park areas we currently have that make York County what it is.

Since the William H. Kain Park is nothing more than good will from the York Water Company, why not utilize the money and the eminent domain process on an area that we currently utilize as a park.

Stop the logging now. Seize this land and preserve something beautiful before it is too late.

Nice letter.

This whole thing has been a major disruption in my personal life, but if more residents (and potential Park users) were made aware of the continual logging at Kain Park by myself and Hank going to the media.............it was worth it.

I just hope that more club members wake up to the fact that our club president has a conflict of interest and ask him to step aside as long as he is on the county parks board.

I honestly wish him no ill will but he isn't doing us any favors by staying in both positions due to his friendship with the folks at the water company......check your ego at the door and let someone else represent us.

Not a cloud in the sky......

First time I can remember that it was sunny and warm on my day off. Ripped off a nice 90 minute ride Monday morning, did a whole bunch of errands and took a nap.

I have something like 2 weeks of my favorite TV shows taped and ready to watch, hopefully if the weather stays nice.......they will gather some dust before I get to them. I have all kinds of yard work to do........pick up some of last years leaves, pruning, trimming, raking and mowing. I can hardly wait to get started.

Not.

I like my yard to look nice but I don't go overboard on being anal about it. Yardwork cuts into primetime riding season, driveway basketball and fishing with our son......

Here's a couple of articles that ran in our paper this morning..........

Cyclists worry about trails
A local bike club is concerned that logging by York Water Co. will destroy park trails.
By LAURI LEBO
Daily Record/Sunday News

At bottom: · FOR MORE INFO
Apr 10, 2006 —

George McNally and Hank Smelter trudge up the stone-covered trail, mud clinging to their feet.

They point to where, until recently, a swath of red pines stood. In the distance, a bulldozer was working on timbering another area.

"This used to be a great place to ride," McNally said.

As part of York Water Company's ongoing forest-management program, pine trees standing along the south side of Water Street, just outside Jacobus, were cut down recently.

McNally and Smeltzer are members of the York Area Mountain Bike Association. Members of the group work with the York County parks to maintain the trails.

The organization's mission statement says it "seeks to promote the conservation of the trail ... to ensure the longevity of trail access for all trail users."

But one of the popular trails that cut through this area was destroyed by the logging.

Jeffrey Osman, water company president, said the trees in William H. Kain County Park had reached maturity and that it was time to replace them with younger trees. He said any trails destroyed by logging will be replaced once the areas are cleared.

A certified trail builder, Smeltzer said he wants to know that the trail that will be replaced will have little impact on the environment.

"We don't want it to wash out and get gullies," he said.

Smeltzer and McNally also pointed out that trees on the other side of Water Street were cut down almost two years ago and they have not yet been replanted with seedlings.

While they recognize there is little that can be done regarding the recent harvest, Smeltzer said he is hoping that the bike club can work with the water company in the future.

He would like to see it serve in an advisory capacity regarding decisions affecting the trail.

"We would like a spot at the table," he said.

On Wednesday, bikers will meet with Duane Close of the York Water Company to address their concerns.

But the men said they don't want this to be just a water company versus bike club issue.

Many organizations - from equestrian groups to hiking clubs - use the park.

In addition to the trails, Smeltzer and McNally are also concerned about the bald eagles that have made a home in the park. Osman said that logging is not being done near the nest. But McNally and Smeltzer worry that if too much of the forest is cut down, the eagles could be forced to look for other territory.

Mike Helfrich, a river keeper with the Stewards of the Lower Susquehanna, said that he has contacted the water company about the logging and was assured that the trees were mature trees and were being harvested before they die off.

Regardless of their assurances, he said, there isn't much that can be done.

"It's basically a privately-controlled county park," he said.

The water company has been managing the forest in the watershed of its two reservoirs, Lake Redman and Lake Williams, for at least 50 years.

Company officials said this most recent tree harvest, which began two years ago, was in response to 2003 storms, which damaged and destroyed many of the trees.

And an editorial from the York Daily Record...........

Logging in county park
Was it really necessary to cut so many trees at Kain Park?
Daily Record/Sunday News

Apr 10, 2006 — Assorted thoughts on assorted subjects:

If a tree falls in the woods: Please pardon the pun, but we just can't resist: They're razing Kain - William H. Kain County Park, that is.

And that's razing with a "z" - not an "a-i-s." As in: Cutting down trees.

Well, not all of them, thank goodness.

But the York Water Co., which owns the land while the county operates Kain Park, recently cut down a sizable stand of mature pine trees along Water Street and sold the timber to Glatfelter - irritating mountain bikers who frequent the area.

Water company president Jeffrey Osman said the trees had reached maturity and "it was time to replace them with younger trees."

But what's wrong with having mature trees? Aren't they better than spindly little saplings?

Granted, some of the trees were damaged by a storm a few years ago, but couldn't they have just cut down severely broken or diseased trees?

Kain and Nixon parks, which surround the water company's reservoirs, are true jewels of our community - a testament to the vision of Mr. Kain, who was instrumental in providing the land to the county for a park. In fact, he noted that accomplishment as one of the highlights of his distinguished career.

As our county continues to grow with sprawling development, these parks are much-needed buffers of green space. So it's sad to see mature trees cut down - almost as sad as it was a few years ago to see the water company sell part of the parkland for a housing development.

With many local golf courses being nibbled away for development, you can't help but worry about the future of Kain Park. The potential profits from development might prove extremely tempting.

Let's hope the water company takes seriously its stewardship of this public resource. As the county - rightly - moves toward preserving another spectacular piece of open space at Lauxmont Farms, the commissioners might want to ask themselves whether it's equally, if not more, important to protect what they already "have."

Just shining a little light on the subject......

Read or die.............

.........That's what the button of a Border's employee said. I know it's a manga term , but I took it to mean something else.............

My meaning?

It's all about educating yourself. I read alot. So does my wife and we have passed the "reading" gene on the both of our kids. Our daughter read the last Harry Potter book in one sitting.

All 600 and some pages.

A fun night might see all of us in various parts of the house...........reading. Our son was up at 5 AM Sunday morning.......reading.

Yeah, we're sick like that.

I read books, magazines, cereal boxes...any damn thing I can get my hands on.

Here's a list of stuff that I have on my "to read" pile right at the moment.

I read these magazines regularly....

-Bicycling
-Mountian Bike
-Bike
-Dirt Rag
-Cycle Sport
-Pro Cycling
-Mountain Bike Rider
-Cycling Plus
-Time
-Newsweek
-People
-2600
-Scale Auto
-Car and Driver
-Automobile
-PC World

Plus a few more....

I also have several books to read.....

Lance Armstrong's War, Bobke II, Giant of Cycling (notice a theme here?) a huge book about the history of the Tour de France, several adventure novels and a book about Linux. Plus a spend an hour or so every morning reading news on the internet. So go ahead and ask me something, I probably have an opinion about it.

Our daughter might find this website useful in a few months when she goes off to college.

If you like to play around in Google Earth 3, this is a neat website about earthquakes that will add some stuff to your bookmarks inside the program.

Something smells fishy here. That's a real shocker, huh?

This is some scary stuff. Other then our morgage, we don't owe anyone any money. My wife and I both have fairly recession proof jobs but you never know........

Molly Ivins gets it right most of the time. Thing is, Washington is full of slimebags just like Delay.

I have a pair of these. Just about the most incredible earphones you can get. I can hear stuff on songs I've never heard before-they really do make a difference. If you want to spend more-get these.

Our family all went to breakfast Saturday morning after we pried our daughter out of bed at the unmerciful hour of 6:30AM. Afterwards, we went to Sam's and loaded up on stuff we needed. I finally bought myself a really nice push broom after wanting one for the last couple years. Our daughter got a few DVD's and our son picked up a few essentials like candy. My lovely wife got a new outfit to wear and a bunch of other stuff for the house.

Usually, when we go into Sam's, we don't take a cart so we don't buy anything we can't carry. Saves money most of the time. I still continue to drool over the laptops............I'd love to have a laptop so I could start making house calls to fix peoples PC's. Not sure if I really need a laptop, but it sure would be useful. Maybe I'll win the lottery.

Here's some ads with imagination. My favorite is the Marlboro man that killed his horse.

If you think the first two planes are low, wait for the third one. Holy crap.

Gatorade=Penis? Nope, I never thought of it that way. I just drink the stuff when I'm thirsty.

Today's science break.

I don't know who's "right" and who's "wrong" but this kind of shit isn't solving anything.

Get a free 32 meg USB stick.

Our son and I went fishing Sunday morning....

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
This is pretty much how it went.

We didn't catch a damn thing, but we had a whole lotta fun. See the rest of the pictures here. We tried several spots but came up empty. My son tried hoisting a few rocks into the lake to see if he could just smash a fish on the head, but that didn't work out either.

At least the ducks enjoyed our leftover worms and we had a great time.

My wife bought me a pair of Bose media speakers for my anniversary present.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Woo hoo.

These are great for hooking up my iPod to listen to in the garage or wherever. They are fairly loud for such a small speaker and the sound quality is better then I am used to. I'm liking them because they come with leads to hook up to the TV as well.

We headed over to my brother-in-laws for brunch on Sunday and managed to snag a nephew or two to take home with us.

Kyle
Sure hope Kyle's mom is okay with AirSoft guns because Uncle George and cousin Dan are half-crazy.

Notice that my nephew at least has a pair of safety glasses on. I'm not that crazy. Kyle has a blast whenever he comes over because he gets to do stuff he usually doesn't get to do. That's what older cousins and uncles are for, right?

You think his mom is gonna turn him loose with a pellet gun? Unlikely.

All in all.........a great weekend.

Till later.

Driveway Basketball.

Whew.

My son and I were out in the driveway playing "Dan's Rule's" basketball Friday night.

We are both a little out of shape.

After about 20 minutes, sweat was pouring off of both of us.

What is "Dan's Rule's" basketball? He kinda makes the rules up as we go along. Since I outweigh him by close to 100 pounds and have a foot or two more height.......it only seems fair to let him get every advantage possible, so some rules change as the game progresses.

There ain't nothing more fun then the first game of driveway basketball of the season...........

Good post by Cycledog. Yes, I do hate it when "religious" folks knock on my front door and ask for donations. They probably hate it even more when I cut them off mid sentence and say "Nottodaythankyouverymuch" and slam the door in their face.

Do I mind people that practice a different religion then me?

Hell no.

I don't care if you think the second coming of Christ is gonna be a goat, if it works for you-it works for me. Just don't knock on my front door and ask for money unless you are dressed as a Girl Scout and you're selling Girl Scout cookies.

Reading this article, it sorta seems like Scooter wants some company when he gets burned at the stake. I don't blame him one bit.

"Give it a shot" Damn.

Uranus has a blue ring around it. Could be funny depending on how you pronounce "Uranus". You know how I say it, don't you?

I don't know, but I think NBC might be the racists or at least corporate news whores. As an aside, I only watch a few races a year and I tape them all and fast forward through the commercials. I can watch a 3 hour race in about 1 hour due to them and Fox having commercials every 4 minutes.

Since this weekend is our 23rd wedding anniversary, I bought my lovely wife 23 roses and wrote her a card.

I can never find what I want in the card section of any store I go to, so I just write my own. Most of the cards in stores come under 3 categories.....

#1 Sickly sweet. These just try and pump sunshine up the ass of the person you are giving it to with a whole bunch of flowery mumbo jumbo. Most of these are utter bullshit.

#2 Funny cute. These ones are okay, but 23 years of marrige didn't happen by being funny and cute all the time. Let's face it, nobody is funny and cute all the time.

#3 Serious. Me, serious? Not my style. My wife would be pissed if I bought her a serious card with a bunch of stuff written in it that she'll forget the minute I ride my bike through the dining room. Just kidding honey.

So that leaves me with coming up with something on my own. What did I write in my wife's card? I'm not telling, but it was only 3 sentences and it will make her very happy..........

Till later........

Are the 80's over?

I was in my twenties during the 80's.

This music brings back some memories......Yeah, the 80's....Don Johnson with his stubble and linen suits, really shitty cars and haircut bands. Oh yeah. Me? I was into AC/DC (still am) and the Beach Boys. I always thought it would have been cool if they played together but alas, they never did.

I'm Irish so I couldn't care less.

Nice. No, actually I am being facetious. If there is a hell, folks like this should go there.

This is gonna suck. I'm sure one will hit the week we take vacation down in Myrtle Beach.

I'm a guy. Obviously, I've never given birth. Not sure where I heard it, but it's been described as taking your lower lip and pulling it up over your head. If I was Katie, I'd tell Tom to pound sand. The guy is a squirrel.

Today's science break. Here's another even more geeky one.

This asshole oughta have a bowl of Ebola chowder.

Seeya Tom. Don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out.

Today's "You have got to be kidding me" link.

Here's one thing I don't ever see myself having done. Ever. I only shave two or three time a week, there ain't no way I'm gonna do that.

I haven't made it through the whole site, but it's been very interesting so far.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I actually agree with Tom Delay on this one.

April is here and we are expected to get showers on and off for the next few days. Since our county just declared an outside burn ban......I'd say we need the rain.

I'd like it to be nice since I am off this weekend for our 23rd anniversary and also have a fishing trip planned.....maybe we can sneak in a few outdoor activities between the raindrops.

Our remodel at the store I work at is over a month behind schedule which puts it's completion time right at the end of the year. From what I understand, it would almost been cheaper to build a new building.

Whatev, they have stuff all tore up and all our customers are bitching. Only 8 or 9 months? Yikes.

We are gonna have ourselves a small shopping spree at Sam's Club this weekend from some of our tax return money. Not sure what I am going to buy, maybe some clothes or something. I'd like to buy a laptop, but my wife would kill me if I did that:-) Then I'd never get to see anniversary #24...........

Reason # 9 bazillion to quit using IE6.

Book: First Lady sneaks smokes
By MEREDITH B. MAZZOTTA
For the Daily Record/Sunday News

At bottom: · TIPS
Apr 5, 2006 — First Lady Laura Bush exudes poise, politeness and the occasional stream of cigarette smoke.

Although she officially quit the habit ten years ago, Bush still sneaks a smoke now and again from friends and White House aides, according to a new biography on her life in bookstores Tuesday: "Laura Bush: An Intimate Portrait of the First Lady" by Ronald Kessler.

But Jack Hayes, a member of the board the York chapter of the American Cancer Society, said Bush's actions are "dumb."

"There are 4,000 chemicals in one cigarette and when she smokes that cigarette she harms not only herself but everyone around her that isn't smoking," he said.

Hayes, 71, smoked a pack a day for 36 years, then stopped "cold turkey" after learning he had cancer of the larynx. Too scared to ever pick up another cigarette, Hayes found comfort in Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.

In 1994, Hayes' larynx was removed and he now breathes and speaks through a small hole in his throat.

Bush "is making a bad example to the teenagers," Hayes said. "They think if the First Lady is smoking, I can too and it must be very fashionable. That's what we've got to stop."

Kessler's book describes how the first lady's opinions have "brought budget changes to a range offederal agencies," as well as more personal details such as her smoking lapses and her difficulty in conceiving children, according to the book's publisher, Random House.

A Dover resident, Al Meskunas, has tried to quit smoking and said the first lady's occasional puffs humanize her.

"I think every reformed smoker would like to have one now and then it's just that you don't want the floodgates to open and start smoking all over again," Meskunas said. "I admire anybody who quits, because it's very difficult, very difficult."

Nearly 23 percent of Pennsylvania adults smoke cigarettes. Smoking is the leading preventable cause of death in the United States, accounting for approximately one in five deaths, according to the Food and Drug Administration.

Carl Kassar has run a treatment program for smokers at Hanover Hospital for the past two and a half years. A reformed smoker, Kassar does not advocate taking occasional drags to his patients.

"I tell them either you smoke or you don't. Leaving that door open still means that you are a smoker, you just don't do it as often."

Kassar said smoking now and then is risky and can lead to a relapse.

"Bush's smoking, despite her high profile, only underscores the insidious nature of nicotine," Kassar said.

Vickie Zeiler, a coordinator of the tobacco education program at York Hospital, agrees. "It's one of those things that she's fortunate that she's been able to keep it to just a few. But for most people, they cannot."

The FDA Web site states that a smoker who makes a serious attempt to stop has a less than 5 percent chance of being tobacco-free a year later. And almost half the smokers who undergo surgery for lung cancer resume smoking.

She "officially quit"? I don't think so. I am damn proud of quitting smoking, sneaking a smoke now and then means you still smoke. I wonder if George still has "officially quit" drinking?.....

Till later..........

I'm such a little boy........

Finished my weekend off with a nice relaxing ride on my chopper. Never got the chance to get out on my SS'er-just flat ran out of time.

The chopper is great when you are going downhill or are on level ground........uphill kinda sucks. Since we live at the top of a hill, I ride it down the hill and spend an hour or two riding the flat sections of the local neighborhoods.

I get lots of stares and obviously, kids love the thing. On the way home, I even made it back up the hill to my house. I totally had to as there were a whole group of kids playing at the top of the hill I live on and there ain't no way I was gonna get off and push my 45 pound bicycle in front of them.

After all, what self respecting 46 year old guy would be seen pushing his chopper up a hill?

Our son and I went to Wal-Mart to pick up all the supplies we need to go fishing this year. While we where there..............I saw the Air Soft display and like the little boy I am on the inside.......

We (or more correctly, me) bought a gun to use for target practice.

I checked around on some of the Air Soft web pages and most of the guns I saw look like real guns. I don't know if that's the smartest thing ever, the one we bought is bright neon blue with an orange tip-it will be hard to mistake for a real gun when we are in the backyard shooting little plastic pellets at the target board.

I had a real BB gun when I was a kid and I alway had fun shooting at tins cans and the like, I told our son if he points it at or shoots at any living thing- the gun goes in the trash-one strike and your out.

Anyways, we are uptight and outtasight with fishing stuff, if it's nice this upcoming weekend-look out fish we are comin' to get you...........

Something tells me this is going to be a wild year for weather extremes in the US. Tornados usually don't start quite this early in the year do they?

I like what Rice is saying. It makes sense to me. Will anything become of it? I doubt it, I'm fairly sure that the Iraqi's are going to keep blowing each other up for the time being.

Religion and politics don't mix. Just don't ask George Bush. Gotta thank my buddy Doug for sending me this link. I had previously seen it, but he sent it to me between me writing this entry and posting it.......... he knows how much I admire President Bush:-)

My opinion might be simplistic, but make'em all citizens. At least then they will be paying taxes. Will business have to pay more for their services? You betcha, that's the cost of living in a free society and the rest of us have to be willing to pay it.

I swear, if I ever win the lottery..........I'll need a seperate building on my compound just for bikes. This would be one of them. that bike is tight. Thanks for the link, Stacey. I have a thing for bikes with fenders.

Today's science break and way cool wallpaper.

If you run Google Earth.......check out Las Vegas.

I look at stuff on eBay all the time, check this article out and use common sense when you're browsing.

It's time for George to clean house and start over. Kick everyone on the staff out on their asses. He should keep Condi and do everything she tells him to do. She's way smarter then he is.

The links within this page may not be working for long. If they still work......you'll laugh and then you'll cry. There are some links in the comments section that are even better, check those out as well.

This is disturbing news since hurricane season is soon here. From the NY times......

FEMA Calls, but Top Job Is Tough Sell
By ERIC LIPTON

WASHINGTON, April 1 — The calls went out across the nation, as Bush administration officials asked the country's most seasoned disaster response experts to consider the job of a lifetime: FEMA director. But again and again, the response over the past several months was the same: "No thanks."

Unconvinced that the administration is serious about fixing the Federal Emergency Management Agency or that there is enough time actually to get it done before President Bush's second term ends, seven of these candidates for director or another top FEMA job said in interviews that they had pulled themselves out of the running.

"You don't take the fire chief job after someone has burned down the city unless you are going to be able to do it in the right fashion," said Ellis M. Stanley, general manager of emergency planning in Los Angeles, who said he was one of those called.

Now, with the next hurricane season only two months away, the Bush administration has finally come up with a convenient but somewhat embarrassing solution. Mr. Bush, several former and current FEMA officials said, intends to nominate R. David Paulison, a former fire official who has been filling in for the past seven months, to take on the job permanently.

"To a lot of people that would be an insult," said Craig Fugate, the top emergency management official in Florida, who said he also had been interviewed but then withdrew his name. "They have been publicly out looking at how many different names and everyone turned it down and they come back and ask you?"

The list of emergency managers who have spurned requests to be considered for FEMA director or another top post represents a who's who in the small, close-knit field.

Besides Mr. Stanley and Mr. Fugate, they include Richard Andrews, the former homeland security adviser to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger of California; Ellen M. Gordon, former homeland security advisor in Iowa; Dale W. Shipley of Ohio and Eric Tolbert of North Carolina, two former top FEMA officials who also served as the top emergency managers in their home states; and Bruce P. Baughman, the president of the National Emergency Management Association, as well as the top disaster planning official in Alabama.

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff has acknowledged the difficulty of finding a permanent replacement for Michael D. Brown, who resigned in September after widespread criticism of his management of the response to Hurricane Katrina, as well as filling other senior posts at the agency and hundreds of lower-level jobs. Today, of the 30 most senior jobs, 11 are filled by officials appointed on an acting basis, including the administrators in charge of such critical functions as operations, disaster recovery and disaster response.

"You've got to be able to attract people," Mr. Chertoff told the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee last month. "And I will not deny that certainly I think when there is a lot of negative publicity, it doesn't make a lot of people want to migrate."

The search has now gone on so long that Representative Harold Rogers, Republican of Kentucky and chairman of the House subcommittee that oversees the Homeland Department's budget, threatened on Wednesday to hold up action on the budget bill until the top administrative posts at FEMA were filled.

The director's job, Mr. Rogers said, may be a post "people like to throw mud at," but seven months after Hurricane Katrina is too long to wait. "Let the word go forth from this place that we want a permanent director of FEMA and we want these regional directors and division directors to stop acting and be permanent,"he said. "Because I want somebody responsible that we can turn to."

Mr. Paulison, 59, does not have the same depth of experience in running a large statewide emergency management organization that most of the other candidates have. But he is certainly not new to the field.

Most of his career was spent at the Miami-Dade County Fire Rescue Department, where he was chief from 1992 until 2001 and responded to emergencies including Hurricane Andrew in 1992 and the crash of a ValuJet plane in the Everglades in 1996. Mr. Bush named him the United States fire administrator in 2001, and two years later he also became FEMA's director of preparedness.

Since taking over at FEMA, Mr. Paulison, who has a low-key, easy-going style, has shuttled between the Gulf Coast and Washington, helping the agency on what is now its No. 1 goal: preparing for the next hurricane season, which starts on June 1.

But he clearly has left it up to Mr. Chertoff to make any major policy announcements on how the agency is being "retooled" to address the widespread failures at FEMA that the Bush administration acknowledges occurred during Hurricane Katrina. Mr. Paulison has indicated that he is prepared, if asked, to remain in the job on a permanent basis.

"I serve at the pleasure of the president and do what he asks me to do," he told the House subcommittee on Wednesday, when asked if he would be staying in the job.

Several emergency managers, including those who were considered for the job, said that despite the way the search had proceeded they were confident that Mr. Paulison was up to the task, even if he had not yet had an opportunity to offer a vision for the agency.

"He has done what you kind of expect an acting director to do, which is basically to mind the store," Mr. Andrews said. "But he brings a lot of the qualifications you need for this job, and in the six months he has been acting as director he certainly learned the immediate and considerable challenges FEMA is facing."

Officials at Homeland Security would not discuss the likelihood that Mr. Paulison would be nominated for the permanent job and said that no one had officially been offered it, including the various other candidates who might have been contacted. But they did say they were pleased with the work Mr. Paulison had done.

"Chief Paulison has consistently demonstrated strong leadership, coolness under pressure," said Russ Knocke, a department spokesman.

This is not the first time FEMA has had to go through a humiliating disaster recovery process of its own. In the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew, the staff at FEMA was demoralized by the widespread criticism of the agency's response, said James Lee Witt, who was named by President Bill Clinton in 1993 to take over FEMA.

But the situation then was very different, Mr. Witt said in an interview.

He assumed the top job at the start of a new administration, with a president who later decided to upgrade FEMA's role by making Mr. Witt a member of his cabinet. In 2003, FEMA was merged into the Department of Homeland Security, losing its cabinet status and independence, a move that several of the candidates said left the director with less power to make critical, on-the-spot decisions during a disaster.

"FEMA can be turned around," said Mr. Tolbert, the former director of the agency's Response Division and of the North Carolina Division of Emergency Management. "But I don't think it can be turned around within Homeland Security."

Mr. Baughman, a former senior FEMA official who worked on more than 100 disasters over three decades and who is now director of the Alabama Emergency Management Agency, said the Bush administration was still too focused on combating terrorism, as opposed to investing in preparing for disasters of all kinds. And Congress still has not shown a willingness to invest sufficient funds into emergency planning, he said.

"To me it just doesn't make any doggone sense," he said, explaining, in part, why he did not take the job.

Mr. Brown said in an interview that he was not surprised to hear so many veteran emergency managers had declined to consider the job.

"Everything I have been saying about FEMA marginalization is true," he said.

Mr. Chertoff has made it clear that he does not plan on putting another person in the job who has little emergency management experience. Joe M. Allbaugh, Mr. Bush's first FEMA director, had been his national campaign manager in 2000, and Mr. Brown had been a commissioner of the International Arabian Horse Association in Colorado.

And even before a permanent new director is nominated, and confirmed by the Senate, the agency is moving quickly to try to fill some of the approximately 550 vacant positions among its full time staff of about 2,500 employees. As part of the goal of filling 95 percent of the jobs by the start of hurricane season on Monday about 60 new staff members will start at headquarters, in contracting, public assistance and other areas, a FEMA spokeswoman said.

Mr. Baughman, among others, said that he wished Mr. Paulison well if he was selected for the permanent post. "He is a top-notch guy, a class act," Mr. Baughman said. "But a lot of it will be determined by the kind of team he can put together there. You can't do it by yourself."

As much as some people hate Wal-Mart....... I think FEMA should be made a division of the company. Is there anyone else on earth that is better at getting trailer loads of goods and products anywhere in America? The management part? You have got to be be kidding me, Wal Mart is one of the best run companies in America. Like them or not-they run a tight ship.......you can thank me later for the idea.

Here's a guy I'd like to see run in 2008. If the choice came down to him or Condi....I'd have a tough time making my mind up. Hillary? .......Please. If she wins the nomination.....ugh.

Religious commentary. I'm not saying one way or the other one this article, I'm just putting it out there to make you think. The comments are as interesting as the piece.

Speaking of e-mails.........

I have too many e-mail addresses.

I check my Gmail address and my main address everyday but I sometimes forget my yahoo address which is linked to this blog. Once and awhile I will neglect it for 3 or 4 days so if you e-mail me there and I don't reply right away.....I'm not ignoring you, I'm just stupid.

I'm a moron..........

I stopped down at my parents house earlier today and my mom said none of her comments were showing up on my blog. There is a reason for that-I somehow turned the "comment moderation" on.

Whoops. I am a dumbass.

I think I fixed it and posted everyone's comments. I don't think I deleted any but with my superior tech skills........it's hard to say. Anyways, it's not my intent to moderate comments, if you post something really offensive-I'll just ban your ass from making comments.

Anyways..........................

Our son and I took some pictures of the nesting spot of the eagles down at Lake Redman, here is the link to the Flickr folder they are in.

There are trees marked for logging just over the ridge to the west less then a 1/4 mile away, I can't begin to express how much this pisses me off. I'm not a bird expert and I have no idea if the logging would disturb the eagles and their babies.........but why take the chance?

Till later.......

Gone fishin'

Fishing is one sport I don't really understand.

I watched the tail end of one of those fishing shows on TV and they throw back everything they catch.

Fish taste good, why not keep a couple?

I would imagine that most folks that go fishing , do it to relax.

What I suspect is that it's an excuse to get out in the middle of a lake and relax and pretty much screw anything to do with fish.

Nothing wrong with that, I do the same thing on my mountain bike.

Moutain biking is supposed to be good physical exercise, but it's much better mental exercise.

...Maybe I do understand fishing.

Till later.

April Fools.........

I'm not one for April Fool's jokes, so this will be an April Fool's free edition of BRDG.........I'll leave the funny jokes for others.........

Did some errands on my Surly Friday afternoon, I'm glad I slapped a set of BMX pedals on it, it's so much easier to go in and out of stores wearing regular shoes instead of bike shoes. I think spring might finally be here because I saw all kinds of folks out on bikes yesterday.

This has gotta be the dumbest piece of sculpture of 2006. Britney Spears and her husband are Mr. and Mrs White Trash USA.

What? I can't hear you. iPods are loud? No shit. Damn lawyers..........

Saw this on my friend's blog. A heart attack on a plate.

This was a mistake, but who the hell doesn't carry around at least some money? Who knows, I was behind some guy at the convenience store that charged a pack of cigarettes.

You have got to be joking.

Some good news. Sure is nice to see him home.

How much to spend? Mmmm, why is the government even stressing about this? Lets just borrow the money like we do for everything else and build it right this time.

A link with something to do about bicycles........The Bicycle Film Festival. Click this for all the info on the 2006 happenings.....Look like a good time to me.

If you are still using IE 6 and clicking links you come across in your e-mails.......this article or this one might make you switch over to Firefox at least until Microsoft fixes the problem.

I'm gonna break out the SS for a ride Sunday afternoon, the last time I rode it-I got it so covered in mud you couldn't tell what color it was. I hate to get it dirty again, but I gotta do what I gotta do. I'm not nearly fit enough to push a 32x18 up some of the climbs but there's something about only having one gear that makes it fun.

I hope to have some pictures of all the logging that has been done down at Lake Redman on my next post so keep an eye out late Sunday or Monday.

Yup, I'd say this has "personal injury lawsuit" written all over it.

I am not racist in any way, but sometimes and I said sometimes I believe black people walk around with a chip on their shoulder. From the way the story reads.......the officer was just doing his job. The way I see it-she's lucky she didn't get tasered.

I'm burned out reading about all the slimeballs in D.C. Is it just this administration? Nope, it's been going on for years and until they get rid of lobbyists entirely-it will continue to go on.

If two guys want to get married or two girls wanna get hitched.........whatever, I think it's just fine because it ain't none of my damn business. I wish the courts would worry about shit that matters to society as whole instead of trying to play God. Don't we have more important things to decide? Like frisking grandma at the airport.......

Pencil holder, anyone?

On a semi-serious note...this fellow blogger takes killer photographs. I hesitate to simply call the "photographs" they are more like art. If you need to relax, go to his site for a 2 or 3 minute vacation and de-stress.

A flight attendant was stationed at the departure gate to check tickets. As a man approached, she extended her hand for the ticket, instead he opened his trench coat and flashed her.
Without missing a beat....she said, "Sir, I need to see your ticket not your stub."

A lady was picking through the frozen turkeys at the grocery store, but she couldn't find one big enough for her family. She asked a stock boy,"Do these turkeys get any bigger?"
The stock boy replied,"No ma'am, they're dead."

Smart Ass Answer #3:
The cop got out of his car and the kid who was stopped for speeding rolled down his window. "I've been waiting for you all day," the cop said. The kid replied, "Yeah, well I got here as fast as I could."
When the cop finally stopped laughing, he sent the kid on his way without a ticket.

Smart Ass Answer #2:
A truck driver was driving along on the freeway. A sign comes up that reads, "Low Bridge Ahead." Before he knows it, the bridge is right ahead of him and he gets stuck under the bridge. Cars are backed up for miles. Finally, a police car comes up. The cop gets out of his car and walks up to the truck driver, puts his hands on his hips and says,"Got stuck, huh?"
The truck driver says, "No, I was delivering this bridge and ran out of gas."

Smart Ass Answer #1:
A college teacher reminds her class of tomorrow's final exam.
"Now class, I won't tolerate any excuses for you not being here tomorrow.
I might consider a nuclear attack or a serious personal injury or illness,or a death in your immediate family, but that's it, no other excuses whatsoever!"
A smart ass guy in the back of the room raised his hand and asked, "What would you say if tomorrow I said I was suffering from complete and uttersexual exhaustion?"
The entire class is reduced to laughter and snickering. When silence is finally restored, the teacher smiles knowingly at the student, shakes her head and sweetly says "Well, I guess you'd have to write the exam with your other hand."

Indeed. I am fairly sure I am a professional smartass. Just ask me.

My mom reads this blog, she isn't going to get this link and I'm not gonna explain it to her.

It's that time of the year again. Sucks for me because I am at work when it happens. I still have the same amount of work to do, so I really lose an hour of my life.

Holy crap. I believe in dignity for everyone, but howsabout going on a freakin diet? There ain't no excuse for weighing 400 pounds.

I still need one of these if anybody has got any loose cash laying around.

Maybe I'll sell a kidney.

Till later.
