.....by walking around a couple of shopping malls.
I have to buy a new printer and a portable hard drive and I we went out to Sam's Clubs and BJ's Wholesale to check prices. Now, I have to say that I'm not in the best shape of my life, but damn.......there are lots of folks my age and younger that are way fatter then me.
I suppose the fact that the warehouse clubs don't sell food in small quantities doesn't help matters much.
Hell, I don't help matters much.
I did a rough calculation and I produce close to 3/4 of a million calories of food on a normal shift at work. That includes all the donuts, pies, rolls, breads, danishes and muffins I make in one 8 hour shift. I am one efficient calorie producing machine.
The revolution won't be televised..........it'll be fried.
Bush isn't any better then Hussein. Am I saying he should be tried for war crimes? I don't know, but perhaps it should be looked into. Whatever we do, this can't go on.
This article is from June. I guess the "deflection" strategy didn't quite work out...........
My friend Hank sent me an e-mail with these facts about boys....
1.) A king size waterbed holds enough water to fill a 2000 sq. Ft.
House 4 inches deep.
2.) If you spray hair spray on dust bunnies and run over them with
Roller blades, they can ignite.
3.) A 3-year old Boy's voice is louder than 200 adults in a
Crowded restaurant.
4.) If you hook a dog leash over a ceiling fan, the motor is not
Strong enough to rotate a 42 pound Boy wearing Batman underwear and
A Superman cape. It is strong enough, however, if tied to a paint
Can, to spread paint on all four walls of a 20x20 ft. Room.
5.) You should not throw baseballs up when the ceiling fan is on.
When using a ceiling fan as a bat, you have to throw the ball up a
Few times before you get a hit. A ceiling fan can hit a baseball a
Long way.
6.) The glass in windows (even double-pane) doesn't stop a
Baseball hit by a ceiling fan.
7.) When you hear the toilet flush and the words "uh oh", it's
Already too late.
8.) Brake fluid mixed with Clorox makes smoke, and lots of it.
9.) A six-year old Boy can start a fire with a flint rock even
Though a 36-year old Man says they can only do it in the movies.
10.) Certain Lego's will pass through the digestive tract of a 4-
Year old Boy.
11.) Play dough and microwave should not be used in the same
Sentence.
12.) Super glue is forever.
13.) No matter how much Jell-O you put in a swimming pool you
Still can't walk on water.
14.) Pool filters do not like Jell-O.
15.) VCR's do not eject "PB & J" sandwiches even though TV
Commercials show they do.
16.) Garbage bags do not make good parachutes.
17.) Marbles in gas tanks make lots of noise when driving.
18.) You probably DO NOT want to know what that odor is.
19.) Always look in the oven before you turn it on; plastic toys
Do not like ovens.
20.) The fire department in Austin, TX has a 5-minute response
Time.
21.) The spin cycle on the washing machine does not make
Earthworms dizzy.
22.) It will, however, make cats dizzy.
23.) Cats throw up twice their body weight when dizzy.
24.) 80% of Women will pass this on to almost all of their
Friends, with or without kids.
25.) 80% of Men who read this will try mixing the Clorox and brake fluid.
As an aside, Hank does have 2 teenage boys and as nice and well mannered as they are.......I'm sure they done their share of mischief.
I can't say that I did any of those things when I was a kid but I have a few not on that list that I've done.
No, I'm not going to share them, my mom and my 13 year old son read this blog.

Daylight Standard Time sucks..........
I pretty much dislike winter and when DST rolls around..........that's a sign that winter ain't far behind. The lack of daylight is kind of a drag, but what I really hate is the cold.
Yeah, I know some of the folks that read this live in much colder climates then I do , but I'm finding the older I get-the less I tolerate the cold.
I remember when I first started back riding ten years ago, I rode when it was so cold my water bottles would freeze solid...............nowadays, not so much. If it's below 40 degrees, the bikes stay in the garage.
Go ahead and call me a grumpy old fart, I'm okay with it.
I've read and heard quite a bit in the past few days about the whole Michael J Fox/Rush Limbaugh thing. I haven't been able to find anything to indicate that Mr Fox deliberately adjusted his meds before taping those commercials. In fact, he denies doing so in this article. I guess folks will have to either believe him or not.
Not much else I could add except to say that Rush Limbaugh was a jackass ten years ago, he's a jackass now and ten years from now..........yeah, you guessed it.
As always, feel free to comment in the "comment" section if you disagree, just keep it fairly civil.
Who the hell is writing Bush's speeches? ........"Democrats should not be trusted to control Congress because they have no idea how to win in Iraq." Huh? What exactly has he been doing for the last 5 years?
Here's a secret XP theme. If you don't how or where to install it..........don't mess with it, but it does look really nice, it has a little more "pop" then the standard XP themes.
Is one MacBook Pro C2D worth two Dells? I'd have to say hell no. That's one heck of a good price for that Dell. I was looking at Dell's stuff before I bought this laptop........if they had this deal a month ago.....I'd probably be typing this on a Dell instead of a HP.
As I was writing this entry, I was watching an infomercial for this. Maybe that stuff could give me that "flat belly feeling" If so, it would mean what a lot of people already suspect is true.......
I'm full of crap.

You have a problem.......
Some people need slapped.
Last night at work, some crochetey old man start complaining to me in great detail how our store could have been better designed. He started off with "You have a problem" and then chewed my face off for 10 minutes telling me what's wrong with our store.
Yeah, I stood there and listened to him and nodded every once and awhile..........after all, the guy had a full cart of groceries..........hate to turn away business.
So excuse me if I seem like I'm grumpy today.
Like they say, stress is caused by not being able to slap someone upside the head that desperately needs it.
Trust me, that old geezer needed a good slap.
This pretty much sums up the whole Rush/Michael J. Fox thing for me. If you have any doubts, just Google "Rush is an asshole" Whatever, Fox pretty much puts him in his place.
Maybe I'm a flaming liberal............but I don't see anything wrong with this. I could care less if anyone is gay, lesbian, black, white, Indian, Irish or whatever. Just be a good citizen......that's all I care about.
Maybe someone should try water boarding Cheney just to make sure it's not torture. You know, just to be on the safe side...............

Is 3 enough?
Our donut display case is right next to the pharmacy and they have a display of condoms right around the corner from the bakery.
Last night as I was cleaning out the case before I put the fresh donuts in, I heard the following discussion.........
Man- These here look okay.
Woman-I like the kind with studs.
Man- Is 3 enough?
Is 3 enough? Enough for what? A night? A weekend? A whole week? They never saw me, I was just dying to pick my head around the corner and ask..............
You all are gonna be jealous, but I dropped off a loaf of the bread I featured in yesterday's blog post to my mom.
It's good isn't it, mom?...........I'm such a good son.

It's all about the bread........
I've been making food for a living for about 30 years and my favorite thing to make is bread and this is without a doubt, the best bread I make.
12 grain Ukranian bread.
I should have put something in the picture to give you an idea of how large this loaf of bread is. It's about 10 inches in diameter and weighs over a pound. The best part of the bread is the crust, it's crunchy, flaky and melts in your mouth.
It's good stuff.
...........lots of folks that work 3rd shift like I do have problems sleeping in the daytime. Not me. Lawn mowers, leaf blowers, whatever-not much will wake me up once I am sleeping.
Our next door neighbors are having part of their roof re-done and even wearing earplugs.....it was hard to block out the sounds of the guys using a air powered nail gun......so I went into our sons room and sacked out on the lower bunk of his bunk bed.
His room is on the opposite side of the house so no noise but I have a seriously kinked up neck from sleeping on a different and thinner mattress. Last year my wife and I got a brand new mattress and box spring from friends that didn't end up using it after they bought it for their vacation house.
For free.
Free is good, because we would have never gone out and spent that much money for this set-up, it is top of the line and we will be spoiled if we ever have to replace it. Together, the box spring and mattress are close to 3 feet thick. It's nice.

I'm happy I bought my laptop when I did, even if it doesn't come with Windows Vista on it. In fact, I'm happy it doesn't have Vista installed...........new stuff is almost always buggy.
I sure hope this guy gets stabbed in the back by his party. He knew.........lots of people knew.
If you don't know who Jack Johnson is...read this. He gave this game all kinds of free publicity before it's release. We have a 13 year old son that has a couple of games like Halo 2 and such and he hasn't turned out to be an axe wielding madman. He's a nice, well mannered kid who respects his parents and does pretty good in school.
Games don't cause kids to do dumb stuff, bad parenting causes kids to do dumb stuff. Kids learn from example. If your mom and dad are mouth-breathers, you'll probably will end up the same, serving french fries at your job and living in your parent's basement until you're 40.
This is the coolest story you will see today. It's about 9 minutes long, but it's well worth your time.
I love finding new podcasts to listen to at work.......this one looks interesting.
I wanna live a nice long life, but not if I have to do this. Especially since I ate 1/3 of the loaf of bread featured in the blog post for breakfast.
Color pictures of Russia from 1909. Way cool. I've always had in my mind that Russia was this cold grey place with forlorn looking people.......
Saw this on fixedgear's blog............my friend Doug would dig this headbadge...I had a chance to buy an Eastern Woods Research frame a couple years ago...........Like a dumbass, I didn't pick it up.
Play hangman with your friends online.
This is a cool website............learn how stuff is made. I think i might have posted this before but it's still neat.
A joke..........
A distinguished young woman on a flight from Switzerland asked the Priest beside her, "Father, may I ask a favor?"
"Of course. What may I do for you?"
"Well, I bought an expensive Electronic hair dryer that is well over the Customs limits and I'm afraid they'll confiscate it. Is there anyway you could carry it through customs for me? Under your robes perhaps?"
"I would love to help you, dear, but I must warn you: I will not lie."
"With your honest face, Father, no one will question you."
When they got to Customs, she let the priest go ahead of her. The official asked, "Father, do you have anything to declare?"
"From the top of my head down to my waist, I have nothing to declare."
The official thought this answer strange, so asked, "And what do you have to declare from your waist to the floor?"
"I have a marvelous little instrument designed to be used on a woman, but which is, to date, unused."
Roaring with laughter, the official said, "Go ahead, Father"
This works for me. If Dems win both houses, Nancy would be President. I don't have a burning desire to see a Democrat in the White House or anything, but how could it be any worse then it is now?

Hi, my name is George.............
......and I'll be your donut artist this morning.
The creation above is a glazed donut with maple icing, dipped in Grape Nut Flakes and then drizzled with more sugar fondant. The Grape Nuts are heart healthy, it says the following right on the web site..........
Post Grape-Nuts Flakes has the delicious whole grain goodness of Grape-Nuts in a distinctive, lightly crisp toasted flake. It has nine essential vitamins and minerals and is 96% fat free.
Like Grape-Nuts, Post Grape-Nuts Flakes is a whole grain cereal that retains naturally-occurring fiber and nutrients  and whole grain foods, as part of a low fat diet, may help fight the risk of heart disease.
I've created the first heart healthy donut. I'm a freakin' genius.
Actually, I have 8 slots to fill in our donut case with "fun donuts". I usually put stuff like M&M's or chocolate chips on donuts but I thought I'd come up with something different.
Our district supervisor actually brings his bakery managers to our store to check out all the off the wall donuts I make.
Yeah, I'm that good:-)

Lies and damned lies............
I don't know if all of these facts are 100% true, but it makes for interesting reading nonetheless.
The elections might be hacked. Nah, that wouldn't happen, would it?
Today's science break.
I'm probably an asshat for saying this........but I don't see anything wrong with this policy.
Went out for a ride Monday morning on the road bike. Here's a newsflash........
I am out of shape.
I'm not so out of shape that I am having chest pains or anything, but I need to get some cardio work in.
My friend Hank and I went out for an easy 20 miles or so and had somewhat of a headwind on the way back to my house. I say somewhat of a headwind because when you're only going 9 mph.......headwinds aren't much of a factor. We did see our friend Shannon on our way back to my house, I'm sure she was bummed that she was heading to work and couldn't ride with us.
I downloaded the new Internet Explorer 7 and installed it. Not really sure what the big deal is, looks about the same except it has tabs. Been using tabs in Firefox for the last couple of years, so I'm not really that impressed. Besides, Firefox is coming out with a new version today, I'm sure it will blow IE7 out of the water.
This video might take a few minutes (their server is getting hammered) to download, but it's worth a look. It doesn't look like we will be leaving Iraq anytime soon.......even if we don't "stay the course"
I decided to try out Google Browser Sync on our 2 computers that run Firefox and XP.......works like a charm. It's pretty cool to close one browser on the laptop and then go downstairs on the other computer and have the same tabs open up on a completely different box. I like.
As my son noted yesterday in the comments section..........Barack Obama might be a candidate for President in 2008. I think the guy has a promising future, but he's only been a senator for 2 years.........not that much experience to run for the top job. Maybe he could be Hilary's VP.
The "Freshman 15"......our daughter doesn't have any worries, she was skinny as a rail when she left in August and when I saw her last weekend.........she said she gained 4 or 5 pounds but I don't believe it:-)
Am I missing something here? What, are they holding the phone down by their "boys" when they are chatting?
Rush Limbaugh is an asshole.
Bush should try "Worst President Ever' on the google.
Here's today's "Captain Obvious" link......green veggies are good for you.
How NOT to do home improvements. Link #1 Link #2.
It's always nice to share............or not.

My buddy Will is the MAN...........
I don't know if ya'll remember from earlier this year, but my friend Will was looking for sponsorship for a charity ride this fall..........here is his ride report from the event.
As you will see at the bottom of his recap, he is still looking for donations to complete his commitment for this event.
The dude stuck his neck way out there and committed to raise a large sum of money for breast cancer research............skip your morning Starbucks for a couple days and throw him a few dollars-you won't miss the coffee and he'll appreciate the help.
There's over 100 regular readers of this blog, if ya'll chipped in 10 bucks......he'd be pleased as punch.
I don't ask you folks for much, but since my wife is a breast cancer survivor.....it's a subject near and dear to my heart..........

McNally's Tavern
Our son and I were out doing errands yesterday and we saw really cool t-shirts we had to buy. They were advertising an Irish tavern with our last name.
The most ironic thing we saw while we were out was one of those huge motorhomes with an American flag mural painted on the back with the words "Let's Roll" written under the flag.......let's roll to the next refueling stop.
If I were a Republican running for re-election, I'd beg Bush not to show up and campaign for me. I bet Bush doesn't show up to help this guy.
R.I.P. pink flamingos. (I have a set in my front yard).
What happened to this guy is entirely 100% legal now.
This web site is gonna piss some people off, depending on their religious beliefs but it does make a lot of sense if you stop and think about it for a second. Well, it makes sense to me.........
Another web site that might upset you, depending on your political views........
While I don't bit torrent games or movies..........I still use Pirate Bay for other stuff......they have a sense of humor when someone sends them a "cease and desist" order.
Not sure what the number will be when you click this link, but where I live...........1362 kids could have had a college scholarship.
I feel bad for this little guy.
You can't ride them, but they are still cool.
Betcha he doesn't use deodorant either.
Chinese soldiers shooting Tibetan pilgrims at Mount Everest. Pretty damn senseless if you ask me.
Today's science break.
Listen to 43's speech patterns. I really think something is wrong with him. Other then being a really bad President.
Heat with corn. Saw this on Matt's blog.
One of the first albums I bought when I was a kid was a Johnny Cash album. Elvis might have been the king of rock and roll, but Johnny Cash was the first badass.
If anyone ever sees me eating one of these.......do me a favor and shoot me.
Yellow Cards..........gotta thank Tuco for the heads up on this one.
Gotta leave on a high note.....this phone call will make you laugh.

R.I.P. pink flamingos.
Till later.

All I can say is.............
Phew.
I was kinda worried about my cholesterol numbers......they are barely out of the "normal" range and my sugar levels are normal.
Good stuff.
I'm gonna be hitting the gym and cutting back on junk food and we'll see where we're at in 6 months.
My toughest part of the day to get through is between when I get off from work and the time I go to bed in the morning. I love to eat junk food like chips, chocolate and ice cream.
I like to snack and read in bed before I fall asleep. I'm gonna have to buy pretzels and learn to like them and also start eating oatmeal with some fresh fruit in it for breakfast.
You'd think that since I make donuts, pies, pastries, cookies and all kinds of other stuff that is bad for you, I'd have a tough time at work. Nothing could be further from the truth. Last night for dinner (at 1 AM) I had a bagel fresh out of the oven dipped in garlic olive oil. Yum.
The sweet stuff doesn't do anything for me when I'm at work-I guess because of the smell and the fact that I see how much partial hydrogenated veg oil goes into all that stuff.
Hey, I quit smoking, so this oughta be a piece of cake.
Figuratively, I might add..........I just hope my wife doesn't mind pretzel crumbs in bed.

I was watching the CBS News last night partly because I like Katie Couric and partly because I haven't watched network news for awhile and I wanted to see what they were saying about Iraq.
Anyone with a higher then room temperature IQ knows that things aren't going well over there and watching the news last night confirmed that. American service men and woman are dying at a near record rate.
I know I'm not the most unbiased person out there on this; Katie reports the news in a friendly but professional manner, but I'd like to know what she really thinks about our current administration. She seems to have just a hint of contempt for President Bush.
Not that I blame her. I agree with what Keith Olbermann said last night, I'd love to see 43 tried for war crimes.
One of these days, the screen on the top of the gerbils cage is gonna give way........
Glossy versus matte..........this is the first laptop I've owned and it has the matte finish. I like it much better then the glossy finish I saw on some of the laptops I saw when I was shopping for this one. I'm just happy my wife let me buy one at all........they ain't cheap.
I don't think I'm an addict, but I am a news junkie.
I want this car. I am such a sucker for that shade of blue. I could care less if it has a V-8, a V-6 or a gerbil wheel for a motor-it just looks cool. I used to have a Ford Tempo, so I know all about style.
Wal-Mart workers get pissed and stage a walk-out. The last thing they wanna do is organize a union, Wal-Mart will just close the store if the employees vote a union in.
School bans tag. No wonder kids are getting obese. It's a wonder I lived through childhood.

Didn't get any pictures.........
Oops, forgot my camera yesterday, but take my word for it.............it was beautiful.
There are usually about a dozen days a year like yesterday. No humidity, not a cloud in the sky and perfect crisp air to breathe.
Having some great friends to ride with didn't hurt either.
I did find some cobwebs on my bike and it makes a funny noise it never made before so it must be telling me something..............like maybe " Ride me more, you big fat dummy"

Since all I own are Apple iPods......I can see where Steve is coming from. I'd like it if the battery on my Nano was replaceable, but you can't beat how simple and easy they are to set up and use.
We could all learn something from the Amish. I have to be honest, if I were placed in a similar situation, I'm not sure I'd be that forgiving.
Nintendo is coming out with a new game system, so is Sony with their Playstaion 3............we are waiting until Halo 3 comes out to buy an XBox 360. Our son and I were at GameStop yesterday and I was listening to some woman practiclly beg the manager to put her on the list for a Playstation 3. The store is only getting 8 of them...........what a mess.
No other words for it...this situation is just flat out ugly. I'm not the smartest guy in the room, but we need to get our troops the hell out of there so more of them aren't killed for no good reason.
Oh shit. This isn't a good thing. I couldn't imagine us going to war with Iran but I wouldn't put anything past 43.
I've worked with some large food processors in the past, some of this stuff is pretty scary. Anything you buy to eat that's been extruded usually has chemicals in it to make it easier to run through an extruder. Not a good thing.

Ridey ride............
Here's news flash-I'm actually going to ride a bike this afternoon. We do a loosely organized ride at our local rail trail about once a month, I'm looking forward to it and maybe getting some good pics of the leaves turning colors.
Maybe I could start up another side business making wedding dresses out of donuts........on second thought-maybe not. Here in York County, folks love their donuts-the bride would be naked before she got to the altar.
We did get our business cards in the mail yesterday-they turned out very nice. I also got 50 refrigerator magnets, so if you see me and you want one....lemme know. I started handing my cards out to a few friends at work, we got 500 of them so I won't run out anytime soon.
More here.
I like this short film.
Multiple congressional investigations and gridlock is the best result we can hope for in the upcoming election. Sad, isn't it? What's really sad is that in all honesty....the Democrats probably aren't that much better then the Republicans.
Two of my favorite television interviewers.
That's one bad toupee.
"Everywhere is walking distance if you have the time".......if you don't know who Steven Wright is, you probably won't enjoy the rest of these quotes.
Somebody help me out here......what the hell does internet gambling have to do with "the War on Terror"? I guess it will deny terrorists the chance to play Texas Holdem online.
I'm probably a weirdo for saying this-but I like watching woman's golf on TV once and awhile. Men's golf is all about Tiger most of the time and it bores the hell out of me. Yeah, I know most folks think watching golf on TV is more boring then watching paint dry but I like it.
My wife gave me a flyer for a new gym near where we live. 10 bucks a month, no contract and no price increase for 3 years. I am going to check it out Monday morning and if they have spinner bikes............I'm joining. I'm not really interested in treadmills (bad knees) or a whole lot of weight equipment.....I don't have much spare time and I like to ride bikes, so that's what I want to do when I go to the gym when it's to cold to ride outside.
We have another gym near where we live, they have spinner bikes but their membership cost more then 10 bucks a month. My friend Hank does spinning classes there and he kicks my ass all over the place when we do road rides. I'm not sure I'll be able to put a hurtin' on him by next spring or not, but I'd at least like to keep him in sight (or at least in the same county) when we ride.
I think I have this on my stomach. Check out the menu on the left, there are tons more commercials to check out. My favorites are all the old Ronco commercials and the Real Men of Genius.
Fork you. Today's art break.
One of my friends sent me this op-ed....it's written by Bill Maher. I'm not sure if I agree with Bill 100% on his viewpoints; but the piece does make you think. Which is why I posted it.
I need one of these. Why? I have no idea..........
I like the "bfh" comment in the comments section....What's a "bfh"? I'm not sayin' if you can't figure it out by looking at the picture.
That sure is one crappy costume. What parent would buy their child something like that?
Build a bike in 10 minutes.
If you look at my Flickr sidebar, you'll see pictures of one of my nieces. When did she grow up like that? Her sister is also sprouting up..........when I was that age, all I was interested in doing was riding my bike and making tree house forts.
Times change.

I brake for cake.....
I brake for cherry pie as well, but I figured I better eat the birthday cake my wife bought me because it will go stale quicker then the cherry pie my mom made me. My mom has been making me a cherry pie for my birthday ever since I've been a kid, it's one of my favorite things in the entire world.
It looks like this will be the last really bad thing I will be eating in any great quantity, got my bloodwork back and I have an elevated cholesterol level. Not sure what it is, I go into the doc next week to figure out a game plan.
Probably wouldn't hurt to get my ass out on a bike more and snacks right before bed are out as well. I've lost about 10 pounds since the beginning of summer but I would like to drop another 15 or 20 pounds........looks like my ice cream junkie days are over. I'll just have to buy really good ice cream in smaller quantities and eat less of it.
My lovely wife bought me a stapler, some tablets, pens and a really spiffy cabinet to store stuff in for my birthday. I think we are going shopping for a desk in the near future.....I have all my business related stuff kinda piled up on the dining room table so it's sorta messy. She's a sweetie, she hasn't complained about it at all.
I love gadgets...........I am a gadget freak. I own 3 iPods, 3 computers, a couple of fancy watches that tell you all kinds of useless information plus a bunch of other stuff......like 6 bikes. Do I need one? Nah, but it sure is cool.
When our daughter was home last weekend, I took her out and we looked at PDA's. I kinda liked this one, it's 100 bucks........maybe after a few more clients. She decided for the time being not to buy one.
Sounds neat but, here's the problem.......it's still a McDonalds.
You have to be fairly secure about your religious beliefs to enjoy this video. Safe for work but if you are easily offended by religious humor........don't click this link. You've been warned. And if that didn't totally tick you off.....go to the main website that will definitely piss you off.
Ever wonder what the world would look like if we all got on a spaceship and left the planet?.......here's your answer.
Oh *snap*.............good commercial. Which leads me to ask this question.......when is enough........enough?
Set aside some time for this one, it's one mans battle with cancer.
Yum...........the Ambien Cookbook. I think I'll go try it.............
Till later.
Incredimail sucks..........
Last night I helped a client remove Incredimail from their computer. They weren't sure how they managed to install it, I'm guessing they clicked on a link in a web page and it popped a box up and they basically got tricked into installing it.
The uninstall went fine but I had to rebuild their contact lists and change all the defaults back to Outlook because Incredimail hosed everything. Some folks think the program borders on malware-I tend to agree.
It all turned out good and the look of relief on their faces when they realized they could resume using their e-mail was totally worth all the work. I also showed them some basic tips and tricks on using their word processor, I'm sure I'll be invited back at some point; they seemed to get a lot out of it.
Yeah, sure they paid me but I really enjoyed helping them out.......it's not always about money.
If you folks thought that Columbus Day was on Monday...........you're all wrong.
Today (October 12th) is Columbus Day because it's my birthday and I was born on Columbus Day. I'm not sure who started that "Let's celebrate holidays on Monday" crap, but I don't like it very much.
I read the following in Wikipedia about Columbus Day..........
In the state of Minnesota, Columbus Day is not celebrated, because many people in Minnesota believe that Vikings arrived in North America before Columbus. However, in 2006, city offices in Minneapolis were closed, as well as libraries across the Twin Cities. [1]
Some people oppose Columbus Day, claiming his achievements are not worthy of a holiday. The modern-day legend of Christopher Columbus and the discovery of America is due to Washington Irving. His "biography" of Columbus, a dramatic and embellished account, was so popular it became accepted as fact. Historically, Columbus was not the first to discover America, nor was he the first European to land in America, though he was the first European to successfully bring European culture to the Americas. There is also controversy surrounding the treatment of the native people of the Americas by Columbus and by Spanish conquistadors.
In recent years, the holiday has been rejected by many people who view it as a celebration of conquest and genocide by the Spaniards. In its place, Indigenous Peoples Day is sometimes celebrated. In the U.S. Virgin Islands, "Puerto Rico-Virgin Islands Friendship Day" is celebrated on the same day as Columbus Day, due to the controversy surrounding the atrocities committed against the indigenous peoples of the present-day Caribbean during the Spanish colonization the New World. In the state of South Dakota, the day is officially a state holiday known as "Native American Day", not Columbus Day.
Some have argued that the responsibility of contemporary governments and their citizens for allegedly ongoing acts of genocide against Native Americans are masked by positive Columbus myths and celebrations. These critics argue that a particular understanding of the legacy of Columbus has been used to legitimize their actions, and it is this misuse of history that must be exposed. Thus, Ward Churchill (an associate professor of Native American Studies at the University of Colorado at Boulder, and a leader of the American Indian Movement), has argued that certain myths about Columbus, and celebrations of Columbus, make it easier for people today to avoid taking responsibility for their own actions, or the actions of their governments.
Damn, some folks really don't like my birthday......
By the way........I'm 47.
And still about 12 years old on the inside.

George Bush 10 Years Ago
This is an interesting video.....................
George Bush 10 Years Ago - Is He Getting Alzheimers?
George Bush 10 Years Ago - Is He Getting Alzheimers?
Second hand smoke.......
Read this article and tell me second hand smoke isn't dangerous. I think we need to take it the whole way and ban smoking in all public places.
You wanna smoke?
Roll all the windows up in your car or close all the windows in your house and puff away.
Smoking and second hand smokes kills and no amount of PR by the tobacco comapanies can change that.
Sounds like I'm grumpy this morning, I'm really not-I just hate smelling second hand smoke whenever I walk outside my place of work to get some fresh air.
At this rate, at some time in the future..........there won't be any Iraqis left.
Televison writers in the 60's and early 70's had to have been on drugs. Thing is, I was about 11 years old when this TV show was on and it was one of my favorites.....
You know what I miss about the demise of LP's? The album art.
This is funny, even though I live in one called Haines Acres.
We live here.
Where do you all live?

My right nipple...................
Don't ask me how I did it, but I managed to whack myself in the chest with the starter cord from my lawn mower. Actually, I was wearing gloves because I didn't want to screw up the stitches on my finger and the cord got wrapped around one of the fingers as the mower started.
It hurt.
In fact it hurt so bad, I thought I was gonna cry, but it didn't hurt as much as it could have.
If I woulda had the gasoline can right there, I woulda poured some over the running mower and pushed it down the street.
Now my right nipple is going to have a nice sized bruise on it in a couple days...........
Till later.

Thank you Mark Foley........
Sure, the dude is a total squirrel, but a month from now-his actions will more then likely have caused the GOP to lose control of Congress. If the guy wants to have sex with someone, I'm cool with that..........just make sure they are the legal age of consent and you don't directly work with them.
The news media made a big deal about this. So what? The guy was 21 and didn't work in DC at the time.
This is just flat-out weird. Eat like a snake? WTF? I like Burger King, but I always just buy the 99 cent hamburgers, buying something with 3/4 of a pound of meat on it seems kinda dumb becuase it cost 5 times as much.
That's some pretty scary spyware when you have to replace the entire computer to fix the problem.....
In my opinion.......I think Santorum is a slimeball; this piece pretty much labels him as a lying slimball.
George Bush sounds like a broken record.
Ya gotta wonder when they are going to start doing this to milk.................

Happy Birthday......
We had a joint birthday party last night for our daughter, one of our nieces, my pop and me last night.
Good times.
I used my birthday money to buy a really nice laptop bag to carry all my stuff around.
All my nieces and nephews are growing up!
Wow.
Makes me feel kinda old realizing that in 10 years some of them will be married and probably be starting families of their own. In 10 years our daughter will be almost 30 years old........and we'll probably be grandparents.
Till later.

Making Light: ATTENTION US MILITARY PERSONNEL
An interesting article (and comments) about the Constitution..............
Making Light: ATTENTION US MILITARY PERSONNEL

Remember that dishwasher?...........
You know, the one that almost ate my arm a couple weeks ago because the counter balance wasn't working correctly?
Instead of my wrist getting caught in the door, it slammed shut on 3 of my fingers Thursday night.
Not the best place to get a couple of stitches if you work with your hands like I do. Those doors won't be slamming shut on anyone's fingers now. Before the doors were sorta half-way broken.....let's just say that they are completely broken now and that the dishwasher is inoperative until someone comes out and fixes it correctly.
I did get to spend some quality time at the local ER. Let me say this. They should post a sign at the entrance explaining the concept of "triage" to everyone. I knew that with a fairly minor cut on my hand that I might be waiting for awhile and indeed I was there for about 3 hours-they were moderately busy.
While I was there, a couple that had been there for quite some time with their small baby got agitated that another person that got there after they did was seen before they were. A very professional nurse explained to them that patients are seen according to the severity of their injuries and that the hospital was doing everything they could to see their child.
The couple didn't like that explanation and went off on the nurse and left. No more then 5 minutes went by when another nurse came out and called for them to be seen. Not sure where the hell they went at 3 AM to get care for their sick child but getting pissed at the people that are there to help you sure ain't gonna help things.
The hospital isn't a Burger King, just because you think you are "next" doesn't mean jackshit, someone that comes in with chest pain gets to go to the front of the line and that's too bad if you bring in a kid with a fever.........you're gonna have to wait.

Jeez, I wonder if Paris could possibly stay out of the news for a week. I'm beginning to think she does stuff like that on purpose.
#1 isn't really a surprise.
An excerpt from "State of Denial"........we might be in serious trouble. The best thing that could possibly happen is for the Dems to win control of Congress in November so Bush is hogtied for the next 2 years. Not saying much, is it?
Got the hiccups?.......lube up.(Fixed link from Sat AM)
I think it's hilarious that the Congress is talking about suspending the page program. Maybe if would be a better idea for the lawmakers to stick to just taking bribes.
Give teachers training and guns. Is that going to far? Beats me, but something has to be done.
Soon, I hope that it will become clear to our current administration that we need to do something different then send Condi......... she looks ridiculous with a bulletproof vest on.
Here's some good news. It's been a long time since I went to school. Back then-they didn't even have vending machines.
Matt has a very interesting link on his blog.
How to wash a cat. Not something I plan on doing anytime soon.
The Asylum Street Spankers. This video is NOT safe for work (F-bombs) nor is it P.C. but it does make a point, which is why I posted it.
George Carlin - Who Really Controls America.......yeah, this one also has lots of F-bombs in it, it's George Carlin, what do you expect?
I make donuts for a living and I'm pretty smart..............I wonder if I can win one of these.
"He has no enemies, but is intensely disliked by his friends." More here.
I could have some fun with this car.
Eat like a snake. WTF?

Happy 19th Birthday Katie!!!!
It's hard to believe my wife and I are the parents of a 19 year old. And a 13 year old.

It's official.....
It's official.
...........I ordered some business cards and I included our son's name-he is my moral support and my biggest cheerleader. How could I not include him?

I wish they did this at every retail establishment where you have to wait in line. I always get stuck in line behind the lady that insists on paying with exact change and it takes her 5 minutes to dig out the last nickel she needs to pay her bill.
I'd pay money to see George Bush participate in this study. It must really suck to be a Republican right about now.
We're getting out of Iraq when?
I bet George Allen is kicking himself in the ass for saying "macaca" right about now. He's never gonna live that down.
Seriously cool artwork.
I'm married to a nurse and I have friends that are nurses......this can't be good. By the way.....that's one of my favorite blogs.
I'm guessing Christmas is gonna be kinda awkward.
I call bullshit. I wanna see them move a refrigerator.
Bob Schieffer sounds off on Congress. He has a point.
Soap works just fine for me. Of course my hair is only 1/4 of an inch long.
Maybe I'd like Monopoly better if they used these cards.
I bought this software so I can download TV shows, burn them to a DVD and watch them on TV.....I'm pretty pleased with myself-it works great and now I can watch Top Gear on a television instead of a small computer screen. I guess it doesn't take much to make me happy.
I was talking to one of my friends at work who is close to the same age as me and we were discussing how far we were allowed to ride our bikes when we were kids............
Before I go any further.........Mom, if you are reading this.......put some pillows on the floor so you don't hurt yourself when you fall out of your chair...........
When I was 14ish......we used to ride our bikes to Lancaster, which was a fairly long ride from our house(about 20 miles or so). We rode with no spares, no tools, no tubes, no water, no cell phones, no money, no fancy bike clothes and no helmets. God knows how we survived, but damn we sure had fun.

The Four Squeezins. Humor that's right at my level.
Check this picture out. I bet that was loud.
Smok'em where I can't smell them. I complained again to the overnight manager where I work, the construction crew takes their breaks right at the entrance to the building-smells awful. I don't give a shit if they are pissed off or not at me........I deserve clean air when I walk outside to take a break.
Here's what I had for breakfast this morning...........
It was only 800 calories. Urp.
"Mark Foley wants you to know he is a gay man." You know what? I have absolutely no problem with that. I do however have a problem with him sending suggestive e-mails to a 16 year minor who worked for him and whose parents put some amount of trust in Foley. For that-the dude should at the very least have to register as a sex offender.
Will that ever happen?
I doubt it, nobody takes responsibility for anything in DC.
They've been killing each other for the past 1400 years, Condi isn't going to change anything.
I'm a fairly good speller, I might not be the best at sentence structure, but it just grinds my ass to see a company sell something intentionally misspelled.
Just in case you forgot or didn't know......October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. My wife is a breast cancer survivor, it can happen to anyone.....even guys.
Make yours here.
I make donuts for a living. It's okay if I like fart jokes........I expect more out of the President, although I'm not the least bit surprised.
Cool link of the day. I could do that if I practiced.
If you're not careful.........you might learn something here. I know I'll be downloading some of these to listen to at work.
I'm glad I bought my laptop before Vista came out. I'm sure it will be fine once they get all the bugs worked out but I think I'll wait until they come out with a service pack or two before I upgrade.
Even though I haven't gotten all my stuff together, I will hopefully have my first client in the next few days.....should be fun. I will be helping a couple learn some of the programs on their computer.
Not much comes to mind when I read about the guy that killed those kids in Lancaster except how much hurt he has caused to his family and all of the families affected by his actions......makes me realize how darn fortunate my wife and I are to have two wonderful children.
Say a prayer.

Sunday at Wal-Mart...........
I guess you see all kinds of folks shopping at Wal-Mart...........My son and I stopped by on Sunday to buy some DVD's to back up my laptop and dress "standards" have changed since I was a kid.
I remember when I was a kid, my parents always made sure I was at least clean and wore clothes that weren't ripped and torn before I went out in public.
Nowadays.......things are different. I saw some kids shopping there with their parents that looked like they just got done a shift changing oil at Jiffy Lube.
If any politician wants to find out what "real" Americans are like.......they oughta spend a weekend afternoon at a Wal-Mart. Folks from every race, nationality and income bracket shop there.
And not all of them wear clean clothes or bathe regularly:-)

Things that are not good for you. I just had #6 on the list, damn that was good. The Starbucks we go to has a "No Parking" zone right in front of it, I love it when the cops come and ticket all the yuppie drivers that park there while they go in for a quick fix.
Cat crawls into and out of a glass jar.
The Constitution of the United States 2.0....
....indeed.
Kind of a geeky article about audio compression. Maybe that's why I don't listen to much of the music made in the past 10 years. That and I'm too cheap to buy very many CD's.......
I guess that's one method.....
Too bad they didn't have more bullets.
10 years of Fox News. Some folks say that they are biased...........I can't really say one way or the other because in the past 10 years, I've never watched it.
More about Foley. That dude is one sick puppy. It has to make you wonder what else goes on in D.C. behind closed doors. It's none of my business what those folks do when they aren't at work........but soliciting minors ain't such a good idea. I hope they throw the book at him and anyone else who helped cover up his behavior.
One soldiers story.
Today's science break......Carl Sagan was one of my favorite scientists. Here's one reason why.
Drunk at the Wax Museum. I'd never do anything like that. Not me.
I think I like the fisherman's way of doing things....
In closing..........my pop doesn't read this blog all that often-he spends most of his day at work staring at a computer screen so the last thing he wants to do in his spare time is stare at my mom's laptop at home.
In any case.....
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD!!!!

Apple still life.
Looks good,huh?
Our son made it and I'm not sure where it went-I think he gave it to my parents to eat.
Anybody need a laptop case for a laptop?
I bought one Saturday morning at the yard sale and it's a teeny bit to small for my laptop. No big deal, it was only 4 bucks, maybe I can use it for something else. It's a really nice case, it has about 800 compartments. I bet sold for big bucks and it still looks brand new......I just wish it was a tiny bit bigger.
We had breakfast with my mother-in-law on Saturday...........without a doubt, I have the best mother-in-law ever.
Maybe I have a warped sense of humor...........but this is funny.
Oh yeah, this is nice. I feel for the kids and their families.
Republicans aren't the only ones that are scumbags............lots of them are scumbags. Maybe those folks in DC oughta stick to this.
I think I've linked to this before..........but I like it.
Life without television. I don't know if I'd go quite that far, but I usually limit myself to stuff on Discovery, TLC and ESPN2. Gotta have my drag racing and poker.
I really want to see this movie.
A good read about 9/11. The comments are as good as the article.
This might turn out to be an interesting read.
I don't watch many movies (unlike our daughter-she watches tons) but I really like this guy-he seems to have a good head on his shoulders.
This could be fun.
It's difficult to fry donuts in total darkness, but that's what I did last night for about 20 seconds. Our power was out for about 2 hours and it took a few seconds for the emergency generator to come on. Kinda sucked, we had to go around the store and put plastic over all the refrigerated display cases. At least I was done most everything or else I woulda had to have built a wood fire under the fryer to finish up.
Till later.
