What a weekend.......

When you work retail....you get used to working weekends, holidays and weird shifts. I was pleasantly surprised last week to find out I was off Sat/Sun/Mon/Tue.

Been working retail for most of the last 35 years...this is the first time I can remember having off 4 days in a row-whatever, I'll take it.

The whole family helped out with some gardening this weekend.

What was I doing?

Image Hosted by <span class=

Taking pictures of my toe and getting my cocktail on.

I was out of Seagram's 7 so I had to go liquor store shopping...there are lots of different kinds of booze. I go into a liquor store maybe once every 2 or 3 years to get a new bottle of whiskey...I decided to buy the cheapest whiskey I could find.

9 bucks bought me a bottle of some brand I never heard of-it's all good, I can't taste it anyways after I dump in the Seven Up. Maybe because I don't drink much....but why is there 50 different brands of whiskey?

I did manage to get my lazy ass outside and I seeded some bare spots in the lawn and did some yardwork. I always manage to go out in the middle of the day when it's 90 degrees-I ain't the smartest knife in the drawer.

Hell, I even rode my bike some....it was only 5 miles but ya gotta start somewhere.

Since my knee operation and my return to work- my knees haven't been doing the greatest. I have arthritis in both of them to start with and having the one operated on didn't really help matters as I began to favor the "good" knee and that one started to give me major problems.

In the last couple weeks-I've turned a corner and they've been slowly improving. To be honest, I am totally paranoid about overdoing the exercise thing and screwing them up again. Ain't no way I wanna have to live with the constant pain I've been through the past few months.

I've gained a few pounds so I really need to get back on the horse, just don't want to screw up my progress.

Dick Cheney is just killing me. For 8 years you didn't hear shit from the guy and now he can't shut the hell up. I more apt to listen to this dude more then anyone else in the Republican party....just sayin'.

Well, I've touched on politics in this blog post....may as well hit religion while I'm at it and piss off the other 50% of my readers. Don't blame me, I just post the links.....

This guy pretty much sums up Memorial Day for me...as do these guys.

Refrigerators....ours is pretty much average.

28 years of marriage down the poop chute because Mel can't keep his penis in his pants. Lovely, I'm sure his 7 children are proud.

Saw this on the way to taking our son to school this morning.....I'd be willing to bet that the driver was talking on a cell phone. That's the second time that house has been driven into.

Overkill.

till later.

Never.........

Never and I mean never underestimate the power of stupidity in large groups of people.

Idiocracy is gonna be here sooner then later.

Huge........

I'm in the middle of a huge project for a new client......redoing several laptops, several desktop computers and a server. Also installing a bunch of new software, hardware and learning Windows Mobile 6 so I can synchronize the clients phones to his desktop and vice versa.

Kinda busy, not much time to blog.

When it rains it pours.

I'm not complaining.

Poker time.....

To be honest....I don't have lots of extra money to throw around but my son and I love going over to my buddies house on rare occasions to play a little poker.

How'd we do?

Well I still suck, but I lasted longer in the tournament then I did last time and I lasted longer then my son.....that hardly ever happens.

Do I win Dad of the Year taking my son to a poker game?...on a school night?

Hell yes I do, it's a fairly family friendly game with some ground rules...no losing your temper or you are asked to leave and no foul language. I figure he gets to meet new people and I get to meet potential clients....and we were home by 10:30.

We only play every 3 or 4 months so it's win/win as far as I'm concerned.

I love this.......

I made someones day....

I was introduced to a client by one of my other clients at the bank today while I was making a deposit.

They had a dead portable hard drive and wanted to know if I could get the data off of it. I said I'd give it a shot.....took the thing apart and disconnected it from the logic board and hooked it up to my laptop....yay! Success!!!

It sure is cool to be able help folks out-they were pretty darn desperate and were sure they lost all their data-lots of family pictures and all their financial stuff.

I asked for my normal fee and they gave me a very nice tip on top of my fee....it's all good. They're happy and Dan and I have enough money to go play some poker tonight.

Wish us luck.....

till later.

A good week........

Wow, I sure did pick a good week for a vacation. Since I normally sleep in the daytime- this week woulda been a challenge.

One neighbor is getting a new driveway, that entails 4 or 5 different vehicles with back up beepers constantly going off.

Another neighbor is having an addition put on the back of their house...that entails constant hammering.

I'm just happy to sleep like a normal person for a week...it's nice to have a window open at night and listen to the crickets at night and the birds in the morning.....things could be worse.

till later.

Computer diaster averted.........

The best feeling in the world is when one of your hard drives shits the bed and you realize that you have 2 backups of the dead hard drive. Remember kiddies, it ain't "if" your hard drive is gonna die....it's "when".

Don't think I've ever been so far behind on yard work. I have the grass in the front yard cut and trimmed, but we have lots of flower beds to redo and quite a few bare spots where the grass is dug up from last years tree work.

The back yard?

I haven't touched it up to this point. The grass is over a foot long in places, maybe I can let it go back to it's native state...it's kinda pretty.

Who doesn't like coupon? I'm putting this link in here because my lovely wife reads my blog and she saves us a a ton of money with coupons. I think I've mentioned before how she is the better half....yeah, without her- I'd be a lonely 49 year old living in a rusty travel trailer somewhere....

Spam hot dogs? Yuck. The best hot dogs ever? Hebrew National hands down.

I could do this.

till later.

Sunday, May 10, 2009

Yay.

Takin' a week of vacation.............not much planned and plenty of time to goof.

Today's post is courtesy of Hank.......

My buddy Hank sent me this and I thought I'd share it with ya'll.............

This is from Anna Quindlen, Newsweek Columnist & Author

All my babies are gone now. I say this not in sorrow but in disbelief.

I take great satisfaction in what I have today: three almost-adults,
two taller than I am, one closing in fast. Three people who read the same books I do and have learned not to be afraid of disagreeing with me in their opinion of them, who sometimes tell vulgar jokes that make me laugh until I choke and cry, who need razor blades and shower gel and privacy, who want to keep their doors closed more than I like.

Who, miraculously, go to the bathroom, zip up their jackets
and move food from plate to mouth all by themselves. Like the trick soap I bought for the bathroom with a rubber ducky at its center, the baby is buried deep within each, barely discernible except through the unreliable haze of the past.

Everything in all the books I once poured over is finished for me
now. Penelope Leach., T. Berry Brazelton., Dr. Spock. The ones on sibling rivalry and sleeping through the night and early-childhood education, all grown obsolete. Along with Goodnight Moon and Where the Wild Things Are, they are battered, spotted, well used.

But I
suspect that if you flipped the pages dust would rise like memories. What those books taught me, finally, and what the women on the playground taught me, and the well-meaning relations --what they taught me, was that they couldn't really teach me very much at all.

Raising children is presented at first as a true-false test, then becomes multiple choice, until finally, far along, you realize that it is an endless essay. No one knows anything. One child responds well to positive reinforcement, another can be managed only with a stern voice and a timeout.

One child is toilet trained at 3, his
sibling at 2. When my first child was born, parents were told to put baby to bed on his belly so that he would not choke on his own spit- up. By the time my last arrived, babies were put down on their backs because of research on sudden infant death syndrome.

To a new parent
this ever-shifting certainty is terrifying, and then soothing. Eventually you must learn to trust yourself. Eventually the research will follow. I remember 15 years ago poring over one of Dr. Brazelton's wonderful books on child development, in which he describes three different sorts of infants: average, quiet, and active.

I was looking for a sub-quiet codicil for an 18-month old who
did not walk. Was there something wrong with his fat little legs? Was there something wrong with his tiny little mind? Was he developmentally delayed, physically challenged? Was I insane? Last year he went to China Next year he goes to college.

He can talk just fine.

He can walk, too.

Every part of raising children is humbling, too. Believe me,
mistakes were made. They have all been enshrined in the 'Remember- When- Mom-Did ' Hall of Fame. The outbursts, the temper tantrums, the bad language, mine, not theirs.

The times the baby fell off the bed.
The times I arrived late for preschool pickup. The nightmare sleepover. The horrible summer camp. The day when the youngest came barreling out of the classroom with a 98 on her geography test, and I responded, 'What did you get wrong?'. (She insisted I include that.)

The time I ordered food at the McDonald's drive-through
speaker and then drove away without picking it up from the window. (They all insisted I include that.) I did not allow them to watch the Simpsons for the first two seasons.

What was I thinking?

But the biggest mistake I made is the one that most of us make while doing this. I did not live in the moment enough. This is particularly clear now that the moment is gone, captured only in photographs.

There is one picture of the three of them, sitting in the grass on a
quilt in the shadow of the swing set on a summer day, ages 6, 4 and 1. And I wish I could remember what we ate, and what we talked about, and how they sounded, and how they looked when they slept that night.

I wish I had not been in such a hurry to get on to the next thing:
dinner, bath, book, bed. I wish I had treasured the doing a little more and the getting it done a little less. Even today I'm not sure what worked and what didn't, what was me and what was simply life.

When they were very small, I suppose I thought someday they would
become who they were because of what I'd done. Now I suspect they simply grew into their true selves because they demanded in a thousand ways that I back off and let them be.

The books said to be
relaxed and I was often tense, matter-of-fact and I was sometimes over the top.

And look how it all turned out.

I wound up with the three people I
like best in the world who have done more than anyone to excavate my essential humanity.

That's what the books never told me. I was bound
and determined to learn from the experts. It just took me a while to figure out who the experts were.

Way cool huh?

till later.

Lawn care ain't my specialty.....

With our weather forecast (rain for most of the next week).....you might not be able to see our house from the street by the time we get our lawn mowed. As I write this, it's a rainy afternoon (and the forecast is for rain all week) and I'm just chilling out watching some TV and browsing the web.

Currently, I'm watching a Discovery Channel show called Meth Nation. Holy crap, Meth is some seriously scary stuff. Now when I was a kid...I wasn't a choirboy all the time, but I never messed with stuff like meth. That's a truly scary drug.

Scary stuff? Howsabout this. Wow, I never realized there was that much sugar in some of those foods....especially ice cream. Yikes.

This guy likes watermelons.....a lot.

My son and I never had our festival of pork yet.......my lovely wife made me a huge pot of chili. I'd probably eat chili for most every meal if it was available.

Gov Palin goes big bore. I'm all for gun rights....but damn, that's an ugly looking gun.

This article will piss a lot of Republicans off. Me? I'm think abortion is horrible, horrible thing but what someone else does with their body isn't mine or the governments business.

These parents (in my humble opinion) need to both go to jail or get sterilized.

Wow....just wow.....yes, people are that stupid.

Newt likes to hear himself talk....but then again, what politician doesn't?

If I had stupid money.....this would be in my garage. I'd probably just stare at it.

Fiat and Chrysler together....maybe all the other shitty car companies can join up with them and all go out of business at the same time.

This is a fun site to poke around in. Not really a fan of McDonald's, but it's cool how they take you behind the scenes in some of the videos.

Honestly, I gotta admire the guy for being so damn honest....if Ridge runs for the Senate-I'm voting for Tom.

I love me some Failblog....more fail here.

Best ad ever.....

9000 bucks........

If you add up my sick pay and all the doctor bills for the 3 weeks I was off for knee surgery....the total comes up close to 9000 bucks. Money out of my pocket...40 dollars for 2 office co-pays.

I've said it before, but my company has pretty damn good benefits.

Our daughter will be home for the summer in about a week....this will be the last summer she's off before she graduates in 2 years. Her P.A. program starts to get even more intense then it is already....I haven't talked to her for a couple weeks, but I'm betting she can hardly wait to dig in. Look up the word motivated in the dictionary and I'm pretty sure her picture is there.

Our son is counting the days until summer break, he's wishing he was turning 16 in May instead of August so he could go out and get a job.....he likes his leisure time just as much as anyone else, but the boy loves money even more.

Daniel and I are going to have a pig flu luncheon tomorrow afternoon.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I think we're gonna make sausage, bacon, egg and cheese biscuits covered in pork gravy. We have several hours of yardwork to take care of Sunday...so we'll have an appetite worked up.

I think our grass is over a foot high in some places...all we need now is a rusty 77 Trans Am with the wheels removed and up on blocks in our front yard to complete the picture. I'd also like to get a small ridey ride in but we'll see how the knees feel after yardwork.....I am dying for a ride, but the grass needs cut first.

Chrysler shits the bed. Not good....I wonder how long it will be before GM follows them down the same path. I think back 10 years and wonder what the hell I was smoking when I decided to buy my minivan from Plymouth.

Till later.......

Don't text and drive like this formerly employer bus driver.

Swine flu..........

Our daughter sent us a link to this blog. It's a good read.

I'm lucky in the fact that I work by myself most of the time and since I quit smoking 10 years ago.....I don't get sick nearly as much. I do think the media is blowing shit way out of proportion...but that's what media is good at-so no shocker there.

I had a can of Moutain Dew Throwback last night at work. As a rule, I rarely drink sugared soda, but I wanted to try it......yum. I think I'll buy a small bottle and mix it with some Seagrams 7 for a cocktail on my night off next week.

So much crappy news out there.....how about some good news?

till later.

______________________________________

Knee update...feeling much better, gotta keep doing my exercises. 8 hours of work is still kicking my ass being on my feet that long, but it's improving....it no longer feels like I have a screwdriver stuck in my thigh when I'm done work-just a small penknife. I'm planning on getting my fat ass back to the gym soon...gotta be careful not to overdo it again.

I bought a pair of insoles made out of Impact Gel...gotta love Billy Mays. Not sure what's in the damn things but the commercial sucked me in and I gotta say- they work pretty darn good.

I bit the inside of my lip the other day....every time I eat, I manage to get to bite the resulting sore...hurts like hell. That'll teach me to chew slower.

Arlen is a Democrat....I kinda respect the guy just for kicking cancer in the ass.

I don't care what anyone says....Allison Iraheta kicked some major league ass last night. She's only 17? Holy crap.

Really, what I'd like to see is Obama lay the smackdown on these guys.....he's also probably got his foot up someones ass about this as well.

Whatever....they still make shitty cars.

Some's good, more's better...too much is just enough. I want me some of this. On the other hand, if all you do is check e mail and browse a few web sites-this works just as good.

Just watched the latest episode of Deadliest Catch.....the Coast Guard has balls the size of bowling bowls.

Seriously...are the folks at Burger King's ad agency high? Maybe it's just me, but a bunch of girls dancing around with square asses doesn't make me hungry for hamburgers.

till later.

Fishing and hacking...

Dan and I had no luck fishing yesterday morning at Lake Redman.

No worries, I don't think any of the other folks there where having much luck either...it was just great getting out to enjoy a touch of Mother Nature.

Every few months I usually manage to screw up my laptop so badly, I have to format it and start over.

Now is one of those times.

I thought I'd play around with the latest Windows 7 release......I liked it quite a bit but too many things I use weren't working properly....I learned my lesson and will do any further hacking around on one of my older laptops.

I'm typing this on my son's desktop computer with the 24 inch monitor.....kinda like going to see movie at the theater, so much real estate. It's great for games but it's sorta overwhelming for simple web browsing.

Our daughter traded vehicles with me for a couple weeks-she's coming home for summer break and needs the van for bringing all her stuff home. I feel bad for her as the van has no air conditioning...it's like driving a green painted beer can-it gets damn hot in there.

Me? I get to drive her Outback which does have air con. I like overkill so when I use the air conditioning in any vehicle-it goes on full blast and stays on full blast. I like it when you step out of the vehicle and your glasses frost over immediately. Perfect.

I'm not sure what the hell happened to spring, it was over 90 degrees here in beautiful southcentral Pennsyltucky on Sunday. I was planning on doing a bunch of stuff, but in the end-squat got done.

Finally...it was my wife's birthday this weekend. I gotta be one of the luckiest guys on the planet...she is one special girl.

Not sure when the next post will be.....I gots lots to do this week.

Couldn't be arsed...........

Honestly folks.....not much energy to blog lately.

I usually do most of my blogging between the hours of 4 AM and 7AM....this week after putting in 8 hours at work-my ass has been dragging.

Being off work for a month and then coming back after my knee operation has pretty much kicked my hiney.

Not much fun blogging when your tired.

My son and I plan to go fishing later this weekend, that should be fun and we're gonna go see "Cranked"...who doesn't wanna see Jason Stratham hook his nipples up to a car battery?

Obligatory cat video......

till later.

Cats with handles.............

Maybe it's the meds I was taking last week...but I had a dream where all cats had handles built into
their upper backs so it was easier to pick them up.

Now that I'm fairly lucid....it still seems like a good idea.

One of my co-workers stopped by last night with her son to say hi.....I can remember when her son was in a stroller-now he's as tall as his mom and he's only 11.

Sometimes I really feel my age....sometimes I don't. (I posted this to my Facebook page already, so if you saw it there-sorry for the repeat link)

Damn near everything on my body is sore after returning to work after having nearly a month off.

No use complaining about it.....howsabout a cat video?

All systems are GO

Woo hoo....I've been cleared to go back to work!

My leg is hella bruised up, but I have minimal knee discomfort.

Even better than being cleared for work-I can do a 1/2 hour of light spinning on the exercise bike.

I can also ride a regular bike for up to a half hour as long as I don't do hills. Since I live on a hill, I rode one of my bikes down to my parent's house-where they live it's as flat as a pancake-perfect for 1/2 hour spins.

After my next appt. in a month if everything is still good-I should be released from doctors care and resume normal activities.

I spent some time outside walking today...no clouds in the sky and mid 60's...perfect weather. To say I'm pumped to get more active would be an understatement. I just have to be very careful about not overdoing it.

I'm also pretty happy I didn't gain any weight in the last 3 weeks, I'm a big milk drinker (sometimes close to a gallon a day) by drinking less milk-I figured out I whacked off close to a 1000 calories a day.

This is a cool fishing video. It's kinda long (10 minutes) but if you are a dad with a son....you'll probably enjoy it. (Thanks for the link Jim)

I just make donuts for a living, but I think it might be time for these guys pull the plug and start over. I don't see how they can cut their way to prosperity.

I really like this guy.....what a sad way to end a career.

132 bucks for a shirt that looks exactly like the ones I used to wear in high school? Nah.

I've done lots of different jobs in my industry...this is true-especially for retail.

This has gotta be one of the coolest pictures ever.

McDonalds can be bad for you many different ways.

I had a drug problem when I was a kid. (Thanks for the link Hank) I'm sure Hank had the same problem when he was a kid as well.......

Business is in the toilet........

Yikes, the economy is slow. Check this chart out-it only starts to get real scary in late 2007. Me thinks we are on the edge of a large hole and we're all getting ready to get sucked in.

Not that I rely on my consulting business to feed my family but I do enjoy making contributions to some of my favorite charities. It's one of the reasons I started the business up.

Not this year-I simply don't have the money...I'm at a zero balance and I still have equipment that I paying off.

One of brother-in-laws is in business for himself and he does feed his family from his earnings...he's extremely worried as he always has a couple of big jobs lined up for the year by now. So far nothing and as an added bonus-his wife is being laid off in June.

Things are bad and I feel extremely lucky to have a pretty good job as does my wife. We are both in trades that will never be obsolete- people eat and they get old and sick.

One of my nieces is considering going to some sort of chef school, I was talking to her on Easter and making here aware that being a chef is nothing like what they show on TV. It can be a good living, but to have some standing in the industry-figure on putting in lots of scutwork and if you're good-maybe you'll be "someone" you're 40.

I talked to a client yesterday and stopped by her house. She had problems getting her task bar to sit at the bottom of the screen. I had it fixed in about 15 seconds and then got a tour of her house. Very cool house, her and her late husband had built on the original house several times through out the years. It had lots of strange hallways and rooms were you weren't expecting rooms.

She's probably in her late 70's or early 80's and she seemed kinda lonely. We had some tea and chatted for awhile.....how much did I charge her? Nothing, I shoulda payed her for the time-what a lovely person-it was a great way to spend an hour of my time.

Yeah, that ain't the best business practice, but another one of the reasons I started computer consulting was to help senior citizen with computers- I hate to see folks go to the big box stores and get taken advantage of. That kinda of stuff really pisses me off because most folks get charged outrageous fees for simple stuff.

This should be passed as law today.

Bored............

Well, I've been off work for 3 weeks and I'm pretty much bored out of my skull.

My stitches were bothering the heck out of me....so I removed them.

Yeah, I'm sure the doctor will be less then pleased when I see him on Thursday.

I don't see any reason I can't get back to work....not that work is *fun* but I hate the fact that someone else has to disrupt their schedule to work my hours.

I did manage to accumulate about 35 grand in Facebook poker winning, to bad it ain't real money.

On the brighter side..one of my favorite TV shows is back on-Deadliest Catch. Not something I would do...riding up and down 40 foot waves ain't my idea of a good time...but is sure is fun to watch.

26 years.....

Actually with all the stuff going on this past week...my wife and I both forgot it was our anniversary.

Oops.

It's all good...neither one of us make a big deal out of that kind of stuff anyways.

How's the knee doing?

The knee itself is doing great but my thigh and all the muscles around my knee are sore as hell from being manipulated during surgery. I'll take the soreness because the knee itself is much, much better.

Happy Easter.

Best, funniest nurse ever.....

This was my prep nurse yesterday.....

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

She had a great sense of humor. My wife sat with me as I was getting prepped and as it turns out, they have some mutual friends. She was really funny and put me at ease throughout the whole prep...actually the whole staff at Apple Hill were super nice.

I was a little nervous about the whole thing, I guess it was reflected in my blood pressure, which is was 130/80 last week.....yesterday it was 150/100. Didn't seem to matter in the end-everything went to plan as far as I know.

They wheeled me into surgery and I remember to first 20 seconds or so and after that-it was lights out as soon as they started up the anesthesia.

As of this morning, my knee seems to be a whole lot better...it's somewhat stiff and uncomfortable but I have meds for the pain so things could be worse.

I have a doctors appt. later today. I wanna go back to work as soon as possible because sitting around the house all day is boring as watching paint dry.

Crossing the line........

Did the Onion go to far here?

What do I think?

Nope, I think the article is just fine.

Do I like the article?

Nope, not really....but we live in AMERICA where we have the freedom of speech.

I personally think abortion is a horrible nasty thing but I also don't believe the government or anyone else has the right to tell a woman what to do with her own body.

In the past 230 years, hundreds of thousands of men and women have died defending that right for me.

If you don't like the article...hey-write the Onion and boycott their advertisers.

Just leave me out of it....I swear the first person to email me some dumbass forwarded e mail about the article is gonna get an earful from yours truly.

Bike trip and some day dreams.....

Not sure if the pain meds I'm taking are responsible or what...but I've been having some funky dreams lately.

For example-

The other night I finished reading one of my favorite magazines right before I fell asleep. I like reading about old bikes, touring bikes, trips, etc.

Anyways, in my dream I was trying to get ready for a bike tour with some friends and I was stuck in this endless loop of remembering stuff that I forgot to pack.

Everytime I would saddle up, one of my friends would ask me if I remembered a particular item and every time-I didn't remember it and would have to dismount, unpack a pannier and repack.

This went on for what seemed like a very long time. In fact it was dark before we headed off to whereever we were going.

Once we were on the road for awhile...I had to stop and change-for some reason I was wearing a pair of coveralls and workboots.

Got back on the road and we eventually got to the ocean where we stopped. For some reason, Journey was playing in the background. End of dream....weird.

Taking a nice bike tour is on my bucket list, but mine will be a little different. I'd like to do something like this.

Mostly flat, stop at hotels to sleep and eat, swim in the hotel pool, watch some satellite TV and pretty much ride at a mellow pace.

Not interested in camping, making my own food or taking a poo in the middle of the woods. I like to ride bikes but I don't like camping a whole lot. My idea of camping is sleeping with the windows open so I hear hear the crickets chirp at night.

We had my parents over for lunch yesterday....my wife makes the bestest most kickass cream of crab soup in the known universe. I helped a little but she tweaked my mom's recipe and made it with skim milk. It tasted creamy without being heavy...not sure how many calories were in a serving, but it was a perfect meal served with a salad and homemade bread.....yum.

This dude is lucky ....no, he's damn lucky he has a good wife and family. I'm not the most perfect guy in the world, but in my 26 years of marriage, stuff like what Spitzer did has never crossed my mind.

Not sure what goes through a guys mind when he cheats on his wife, all I know is that I looked my wife in the eyes when we got married and promised to not be an asshole....(or words to that effect).

Joke time.......

My dear friend Hank sent me this..........

A Florida senior citizen drove his brand new Corvette convertible out of the dealership.

Taking off down the road, he pushed it to 80 mph, enjoying the wind blowing through what little hair he had left.

'Amazing,' he thought as he flew down I-95, pushing the pedal even more. Looking in his rear view mirror, he saw the state trooper behind him, blue lights flashing and siren blaring.

He floored it to 100 mph, then 110, then 120.

Suddenly he thought, 'What am I doing? I'm too old for this,' and pulled over to await the trooper's arrival.

Pulling in behind him, the trooper walked up to the Corvette, looked at his watch and said, 'Sir, my shift ends in 30 minutes. Today is Friday.
If you can give me a reason for speeding that I've never heard before, I'll let you go.'

The old gentleman paused. Then said,

'Three years ago, my wife ran off with a Florida State Trooper. I thought you were bringing her back.'

'Have a good day, Sir,' replied the trooper.

Oh my.

I don't necessarily want to jump out of a plane if I make it to 97...but a bike ride would be nice. As I type this....it is absolutely gorgeous outside-damn knee.

If by some miracle I ever get a scooter.....I'm gonna wear a full face helmet.

Fast and Furious.........

Our son and I went to see Fast and Furious last night.....my three word movie review-

Things Go BOOM.

Of course, the plot is totally ludicrous-but that ain't the point in these kinds of movies. It the cars, the car chases and the explosions and on that count-this movie scores a solid 9 out of 10.

Car chases I liked better? I'd have to say Ronin and Bullit had better (or more realistic) car chase scenes....whatever, it was an entertaining movie.

My knee was killing me by the time we got out of there but I promised our son we'd go see the movie as soon as it came out.

Some folks assume.......

I have a few clients and a few family members that love to send me unsolicited forwarded e mails.

Maybe because when I'm at a client's house I tend to nod and agree with them when they discuss political stuff so as not to appear rude. Most of my in-laws are staunch dyed in the wool Republicans and guess what?

I'm totally okay with that.

If I'm at your house and you want to discuss religion or politics-I'm gonna keep my mouth shut so I don't appear rude or upset folks with my somewhat extreme political views.

If you're at my house and wanna discuss politics-I'm gonna suggest we change the topic of discussion.

Insist on discussing politics or religion?

Well, we're gonna have a lively discussion and somebody will probably end up with hurt feelings because I go for the throat...nothing personal, I just hate to lose arguments, debates or anything else for that matter.

Whatever, just stop sending me forwarded emails about politics or religion-I ain't interested.

Yeah, I know what you're thinking...."Donut Guy, you talk about politics and religion on your blog all the time...what's the deal?"

The deal is that you choose to come here-if something I write pisses you off-you have several choices.

Do nothing, go to another web site or leave a polite comment and we can have a civilized online discussion. If you wanna be an asshole in the comments section, no biggie-I'll just delete your comment and ban your IP.

I read lots of stuff that pisses me off, but 99.99% of the time I blow it off unless I personally know the person well enough to call them on the phone and discuss the issue....after all, this is the Internet and everyone with a PC and an opinion can be heard.

If you don't like what they have to say...go outside and play.

Just don't forward me stupid e mails.

till later.

I don't do waiting real good............

Impatient is my middle name. Actually, my middle name is Leroy....but for the sake of the blog post....it's gonna be "Impatient".

Just sitting around the house with nothing to do except play around with my computers, watch TV or taking a nap sound like fun?

Nope.

I'd rather be back at work.....just sitting around is killing me. Sure, we have the Bowflex where I can at least get some decent upper body exercise....but nothing beats getting some heart pounding exercise.

My main enemy is ice cream......dear Lord- I love me some ice cream. I'm limiting myself to one bowl in the evening. Yeah, I know that's probably the worst time of the day to eat ice cream, but that's what makes me happy.

On the plus side, I'll be able to go to see some of our sons ball games after school..he's the manager of the girls softball team...for some reason, I enjoy watching softball way more than baseball.

When I was a kid, all my buddies and I would ride our bikes here and watch softball tournaments....good times for sure.

One thing I'll be doing for the next couple days is helping my lovely wife do the taxes. We do them on one of our computers and then file online. I get to do all the data entry from last year and plug in this years numbers.....beats sitting around staring at the wall.

I did go to the pharmacy and get my painkiller prescription filled...I have a huge container of Vicodin.....If it's gonna hurt as much as I have pills for- I might be a little doped up for a couple days after the operation.

My mom will like this....best paper sculpture you will see today.

Oh yeah....I almost forgot today's cat video.

Now all I have to do is wait........

Over the past two days, I've had a chest x-ray, several knee x rays, a knee MRI, an electrocardiogram and blood work done.

Now all I have to do is wait until next Wednesday for my operation. It's gonna kill me to be sitting until next week but the doc said all I have to do is land my weight on the knee wrong and I could damage it further......I'm not really interested in doing that-it hurts enough already.

Seriously........

If you think President Obama's planned commencement speech at Notre Dame is a bad idea....read this article.

I think that if I was a devout Catholic and was attending said school....I'd go and have a listen anyways. The dude is a fairly good speaker and hey....I might learn something.

I remember this just like it happened. I was working overnight at a bakery in Harrisburg and remember listening to the radio and how everyone was leaving the area. I blame the media for most of the hysteria at the time.

Another good reason to stay away from Wal-Mart bikes and buy your bike from a professional bike shop.

Wal-Mart might be good for lots of stuff, but bikes ain't one of them. I bought our son a bike there when he was small and I basically had to disassemble it and reassemble it.

It's hillbilly time........

It probably seems like I live and work in rural West Virginia from some of my latest posts concerning rednecks and hillbillies.

I'm friends with a bakery manager from Front Royal W VA and she agrees- there are a lot of rednecks and mullet wearing hillbillies in our area...she used to live here, so she would know.

It's not like I search out weirdos to post about in my blog, but when you work graveyard shift in a grocery store......well, not many normal people shop at 3 AM.

There's this guy that comes in every morning and if you saw him...you'd agree with me that he looks like he just finished masturbating right before him came (no pun intended) into the store. Not sure what it is about him...but if you look up the word "skeevy" in the dictionary-his picture with his squinty little beady eyes would be there.

I guess pervy people gotta eat too.

Hopefully, the weather will cooperate Sunday afternoon.....I'm dyin' to get a ride in. Hell, I don't even care if it's just a 10 miler down the river and back-I gotta get some sunshine.

Damn cat part 2

I found my phone, the cat had it in her window seat underneath her blanket. Not sure if she was planning on keeping it, but the way she had it hidden-I'm thinking she was planning on keeping it. She was probably just getting back at me for putting a scarf around her neck the other day.....or maybe planning on SMS'ing her friends for a sleepover.

Anyone been reading up on the financial shitstorm happening in our country? It's pretty bad out there but from what I've been reading and just a gut feeling....I think it's going to get worse. I sure hope I'm wrong, but being close to 50 years old....I'm hoping that things recover in the next 10 to 15 years so my lovely wife and I can retire.

As far as our kids and their kids are concerned? Wow, all I can say is that the next few generations are on the hook for a metric assload of government debt. It's some scary shit....and most of the problems can be traced back to this shining piece of legislation.

Exxon Mobil oughta just do the right thing. It's not like they ain't got the money. Why do some corporations just insist on being dickheads?

Getting hurt is no fun.........

It's been a long time (knock on wood) since I've really hurt myself riding a bike. Yeah, I've had a few scrapes and bruises, but no broken bones (broken fingers don't count).

One of my readers (Thanks Bob) sent me this link about getting "doored".

I've never been doored but thinking back to my youth until the present......I've had plenty of other mishaps......note to my mother-you might not know about all these.....I didn't want to worry you:-)

-When I was 12- I rear ended a station wagon because I couldn't stop in time...no worries-the rear window was open and I landed in the rear seat.

-I broke the handlebars in half on my my bike when I was in 10th grade and rode it that way for a couple weeks because I didn't have the money to get it fixed.

-Right when I started back up mountain biking in the mid 90's...I lost my balance on the top of a steep hill...I fell off on the hill side and my bike fell off the side of the ravine-it took me a half hour to find it and another hour to drag it out of the woods because both tires were flat.

-When I was going down a very steep hill on my road bike (50mph+) A very large wasp landed on my upper thigh and I had to watch it sting me several times before I could get my bike stopped. That one hurt like a MF'er.

While I was bombing down a large hill on my mountain bike-A very large buck ran directly in front of me. I was probably going at least 20 mph and the buck was so close to my handlebars, I can't believe I didn't hit it.

That was the closest I ever came to crapping my pants while riding a bike.....except when I was 4- I did crap my pants while I was riding my tricycle with the broken handlebars.

Lots of other wrecks and a trail of broken bicycle parts...some other time.

I love screwing with people.....

Little enough I get out of life......I enjoy screwing with drunk customers at 3AM.

I use several tools for most of my work, number one- I repeat everything they say back to them as a question and number 2- I repeat the same answer twice with a different inflection each time or sometimes to be extra fun-I'll answer a question with a totally incorrect answer.

Typical conversation goes like this......

Drunk Customer- Hey, yous guys got any fresh donuts?

Me- Do we have any fresh donuts?

DC- Yeah.

Me-Yes.

DC Yes....yes what?

Me-We have fresh donuts.

DC Do you have any creme filled?

Me-Do we have creme filled?

About this time the drunk customer is looking around for a hidden camera......

DC-Do I stutter?

Me- Do you stutter?

I'm starting to irritate the living shit out of this guy, so I figure it's time to switch tactics.

Me-Creme filled? Yes, I'm sorry-we have fresh coffee rolls...how many would you like?

DC-Coffee rolls?

Me-Coffee rolls?

DC-No, do you have......customer forgets what they originally wanted...

Me-Creme filled?

DC-Yes, creme filled.

Me-No sorry, we're all out.

DC-Do you have coffee rolls?

Me-Do we have coffee rolls?

DC- Yeah.

Me- Yes, we have creme filled ...how many would you like?

McDonalds really isn't food........

It's been quite awhile since I've eaten at a McDonalds. I stopped there yesterday with my son and his girlfriend for a quick meal.

Yuck.

I had a Big Mac that I burped up for the rest of the evening.

It's really not a hamburger.....it's more like the food scientists at McDonalds engineered a hamburger "product"....it looks like a hamburger, but it ain't really a hamburger.

As I am sitting here typing this 10 hours after having eaten it....my stomach still feels queasy.

I can't believe people eat that shit on a daily basis.

Happy St Patricks Day..

The message seems to be....if you're Irish....today's the day to be a drunk jackass. Speaking as an Irishman- we don't go out and drink ourselves into a stupor on St Pats day....that stuff is strictly for amateurs.

True Irishmen just go about their daily lives...it's just like any other day only we're Irish and you're not......

If I had a job where I had to sit in front of a computer all day.....I'd probably get fired.

Between reading my RSS feeds on Google Reader, Facebook and Google News...I wouldn't have any time to do work.

I glad that I don't have internet access on my side of the store...I have no self control-I'm an information junkie.

Our daughter has 581 friends on Facebook...I wonder if she knows all those folks? Knowing her, she probably does.

I bought one of my Christmas presents and am using it already.....a new office chair. I left the wheels and the left side arm rest off when I put it together....yeah, I'm a little weird.

Maybe I spoke too soon about being disappointed with Obama and the AIG bonus situation.

This dude had 8 years to get it right and he screwed the pooch...now he needs to shut the f*** up and retire gracefully.

Things are going to get worse.....way worse- before they get better. I am extremely thankful I have steady employment.

I'm very happy no one was hurt.....but I woulda paid 20 bucks to see it happen.

Training......

Part of my job is training new bakery associates how to make donuts....I'm working with a guy that's from Michigan. He's a helluva nice guy and a super hard worker....but boy his accent hard to follow.

Me?

I of course, sound perfectly normal. Eh?

I think my favorite accent is Southern...I worked with a very nice young lady from Georgia a couple years ago and she was fun to talk to. It just might be me, but everyone I've ever worked with from the South have been way more laid back than us uptight Northerners.

I watched some of American Idol this week....sort of a fun show. Not sure why everyone is all up in arms about the "Judge's Save"...heck, it's just a TV show-they ain't curing cancer or anything.

Only 15 years or so to go........

I'm almost 50 and if everything goes to plan.....sometime after the next 15 years goes by-I'll be able to retire.

My dad (bless his heart) is in his early 70's and still works a 40 hour week.

I don't know 100% of my parents finances but I'm pretty sure he could retire if he wanted to. Thing is...he likes to work-more power to him I say.

Me?

The second I can retire.....I'm gone.

A good friend and co-worker just retired last week and he couldn't wipe the smile off his face. He saved 10% of his salary in a 401 k and with that, his pension and S.S., he's making more money retired then he was when he was working.

All I know is that my ass was dragging last night at work....having an entire week off from making donuts was nice and being back on my feet for 8 hours a night sucks hind teat.

This has to be the dumbest woman on the planet.

Back to work.........

Time to go back to work Tuesday night.....yay.

I can't complain too much, I still have over 3 weeks of vacation to take yet.

The weather today is just about perfect as far as I'm concerned...light breeze and temps in the 60's. I have all the windows open and there is a nice little bit of fresh air going through the house.

Now if I only wouldn't have been an idiot working out last week and bunged up a knee....it would be a perfect day for a ride. Our cycling group here in York had a ride yesterday afternoon...I was planning on attending after lunch with my folks but it just wasn't gonna happen.

I had a good week, spent way more time then I thought I would working on clients machines but hey....I made a little bit of money which is going to pay for my son's new computer.

I did add an extra work station to my set-up...last week when I was working on 4 computers at once-I sorta ran out of room to put stuff. I have a great wife, even though our dining room kinda looks like a computer room instead of a dining room...she's okay with it....sorta.

Stem cell research is back on. Since I'm a fairly radical Libertarian liberal....I think this is a great idea. If it has the potential to saves lives-I'm for it.

Wow...Rush Limbaugh really is a jackass. Picking on a guy with a brain tumor is kinda low.

I don't even though who this is...but I woulda lost my shit too if someone touched me.

I love fart machines....SFW video on a NSFW website.

I'd like to see some of the stimulus money spent on stuff like this.

I want a computer like this one. Yikes.

This was pretty much what it was like when I grew up.

Too bad things are so different now....

Wow....this is messed up. The victim is only 9 years old for heavens sake.

Vatican defends Brazil excommunication

A little bummed.....

I really wished I didn't overdo the elliptical machine last week.

I'm missing a good bike ride today.

I suppose that if that's my worst problem....things aren't to bad, but still-it woulda been nice to hang out with my friends.

Did anyone notice that I've tried to steer away from politics in the past few weeks? I know it's an extremely polarizing subject......the Republicans gotta do something with this guy. Personally, I think he's ten pounds of shit packed into a 5 pound bag, but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

My wife is back from her conference in Kansas and has a bag full of pens and 4 coffee thermos to hand out to her co-workers....she's pretty impressed with my cleaning job.

Our daughter is back from Mexico safe and sound.....I haven't had a chance to talk to her but hopefully she had a good time.

We used to play "Kick the Can" in front of Victor's Italian Restaurant.....back when I was a kid-it was a seedy bar.

I'm thinking that at some point...it would be cheaper for the Federal government to directly pay the employees of GM instead of propping up the company. I know it's not quite that simple, but still.

Awwwww.

Clean house.....

I know I oughta help out around the house more often.....I try to make up for it with my sense of humor and wit.

That doesn't really fly with my lovely wife. She enjoys my sense of humor most of the time-but when it comes down to built up soap scum in the shower...not so much.

So, instead....about once or twice a year-I go through the house and clean up with extreme prejudice. It took me all of Friday to ream out all the junk laying around (to be fair-lots of it was mine) and dust, vacuum, scrub and polish stuff.

My wife likes coming home to a clean house.....if my lovely wife ain't happy-nobody is happy.

Here's some food for thought....Unemployment Rate Was 14.8% in February. Makes sense to me, just about everyone somes someone that is out of a job or working at a job they picked up just for the cash.

Like I always say...I just make donuts for a living but I'd rather have a "U" shaped recession rather then an "L" shaped one. Whatever happens-things are already bad...and getting worse.

Joke.....

My friend Hank sent me this.....

John was a salesman's delight when it came to any kind of unusual gimmicks.

His wife Marsha had long ago given up trying to get him to
change.

One day John came home with another one of his unusual
purchases. It was a robot that John claimed was actually a lie detector.

It was about 5:30 that afternoon when Tommy,
their 11 year old son, returned home from school.

Tommy was over 2
hours late. "Where have you been? Why are you over 2 hours late getting home?" asked John.

"Several of us went to the library to work on an
extra credit project," said Tommy.

The robot walked around the table
and slapped Tommy, knocking him completely out of his chair.

"Son,"
said John, "This robot is a lie detector, now tell us where you really were after school."

"We went to Bobby's house and watched a movie.."
said Tommy.

"What did you watch?" asked Marsha.

"The Ten Commandments."
answered Tommy.

The robot went around to Tommy and once again slapped
him, knocking him off his chair.

With his lip quivering, Tommy got up
sat down and said, "I am sorry I lied. We really watched a tape called "Sex Queen."

"I am ashamed of you son," said John. "When I was your age, I never lied to
my parents."

The robot walked around to John and delivered a whack that
nearly knocked him out of his chair.

Marsha doubled over in laughter,
almost in tears and said, "Boy, did you ever ask for that one!

You
can't be too mad with Tommy. After all, he is your son!"

The robot
walked around to Marsha and knocked her out of her chair.

Vacation/Staycation

Wow....I thought I'd have a leisurely week from making donuts and get to goof off and eat ice cream.

It's not to be, this has been the busiest week ever with my computer consulting.

If I was this busy all the time fixing computers-I could quit my job. The problem is that I might go 3 or 4 weeks without any clients, so that would kinda be a problem.

My lovely wife is out of town this week and I promised her I'd clean the house....it's Friday and I haven't started yet-so gotta go.

My cousin rides bikes........

My cousin Mat got the bike bug a couple years ago....he's riding in this year's Tour de Cure.

It's been a couple years since we hung out but it didn't stop me from throwing a little cash his way.

I don't normally ask folks to send money to people they don't know....but Mat's a good guy and he's riding for a reason.

If you can....step up to the plate and donate.

Shocked.....

Shocked....I'm just shocked at this news.

Porn in the USA: Conservatives are biggest consumers - New Scientist

Things I learned in yesterday's snow storm.....

Never assume your snowblower will start right up if you haven't used it for two years. I drained the gas out the last time I used it and when I put fresh gas in yesterday- no love.

It was so damn cold out, I figured that might have something to do with it, so instead of screwing around with it....I got my trusty 15 year old out from behind his computer screen and made him help me shovel the driveway.

I learned that my knees do not like cold dry weather. Hell, my knees don't like anything right at the moment.

People that aren't comfortable driving in bad weather......stay the f*** off of the road. Go to an empty parking lot and practice starting, stopping and turning on snow. Yesterday, I had a lady pull out in front of me and then slammed on the brakes because I was too close to her. I just love passive-aggressive drivers.

This week....is all guy week at our house. My wife is in Kansas City for a conference. If my son and I don't burn the house down...I report later in the week on how we are managing.

So...our daughter is in Mexico this week.

Everyone I tell about our daughter being in Mexico this week is basically terrified that she will be kidnapped or killed.

Me?

I ain't worried at all.

She's in a part of Mexico where there's none (or very little) gang activity and she's going to be spending almost all her time inside a hospital working with sick children. Could something happen? Sure, but being 2000 miles away from her...there isn't much I could do about it, so why spend time worrying about it.

She's doing stuff and traveling to places I only dreamed about when I was a kid, I hope she gets the opportunity to travel even more before she settles down to start her career.

To say I am proud of her and her younger brother would be an understatement.....we have awesome kids. I really believe both of them will grow up, go out into the world and make a difference.

As a dad....what else could I ask for?

I'm starting 9 days off...to be honest-I need a break, since the beginning of the year, I've had one complete day off. I'm sorta burned out and need to recharge my batteries.

I'm working on a few computers and since my wife is out of town this week-my son and I are gonna be good boys and clean the house from top to bottom by the time she returns Saturday afternoon.

Ever wonder what R2D2 was saying in those Star Wars movies? (off color...R2D2 sorta has a dirty mind)

In my humble opinion....this was one of the best shows on TV.

Excellent air valve placement.
