This reminds me...........

I read this blog entry over on Large Fella's site. Reminds me of one particular summer back in 1976. That was the last summer I really spent riding as the next winter, I turned 17 and soon after took a 20 year break from riding.

That summer the whole neighborhood group of us rode our bikes to Gettysburg. None of us told our parents where we were going, we just met up one morning and headed out from York. Back then, the thought of carrying tubes, spares or any patches was unheard of-kinda stupid but that's how we did it. We just packed up a lunch and stuffed it into our backpack.

10 or 12 of us rode out to the visitors center in Gettysburg, ate lunch and headed back. My memory of the day is a little cloudy, not sure how long it took us to get back, but I do remember we raced a thunderstorm the whole way back and beat it.

We did stuff like that that whole summer, sure wish I could go back in time once and awhile.............

I want one, I want one. I'm sure our 11 year old will be begging me to go out and buy him one. Every time I seem to save up any money- It just burns a hole in my pocket.

These is a neat deal. Too bad they don't sell those "El Camino" type of vehicles in the USA anymore. My old man used to get these as company cars back when I was a kid. Right when I turned 17, I learned to drive in a 1975 Ford Gran Torino Ranchero.

Had to be the ugliest car in York.

It looked exactly like this one, only in lime green.

It had a 460 cubic inch engine with a 4 barrel carb. It wasn't really that fast but I used to take the air cleaner off and it sounded like the hood was gonna get sucked down into the engine when you stomped on it. I suppose it's lucky my pop never caught me doing that.

Different isn't always better. It's a free country and all. It's great that someone can come up with something different, but bottom line......... it seems like kind of a waste of time to me. Whatever flaots your boat.

I can see adventure racers liking this drug a whole lot. Me? I enjoy sleeping. I woke up this morning with a very sore throat. Really pisses me off-I had planned to ride this morning with my YAMBA buddies. I don't really feel all that bad but I better take it easy as next week-I am training new associates and can't really call in sick..............

til later..........

Old memories of youth, cycling, adventures are so cool aren't they?

So much potential, so many possibilities... we all had everything in front of us back then.
